Recap: Seattle vs. Baltimore

Seattle, WA (Sports Network) - Nate McLouth hit a solo home run and Jason Hammel picked up his fourth win of the season -- all of which have come on the road -- as the Baltimore Orioles downed the Seattle Mariners, 7-2, Tuesday in the middle test of a three-game set at Safeco Field.

Matt Wieters hit a two-run double, Chris Dickerson had three hits and two RBI and J.J. Hardy plated a run and scored another for the Orioles, who bounced back from a 6-2 loss in Monday's series opener.

Hammel (4-1) tossed five-plus innings, yielding two runs on seven hits and three walks to go with five strikeouts in the victory.

Michael Morse hit a solo homer and Kelly Shoppach had an RBI to account for Seattle's two runs. Rookie Brandon Maurer (2-4) allowed four runs on six hits over four innings for the Mariners, who had their season-high three-game winning streak come to an end.

"I was rushing quite a bit today," Maurer said. "I needed to settle down and take some deep breaths and throw better strikes."

The visitors jumped out to an early 4-0 advantage in the first. McLouth smacked a solo shot to right to lead off the contest. Manny Machado then hit a double, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored shortly after on another wild pitch to make it 2-0. Wieters later hit a one-out, two-run double scoring Nick Markakis and Chris Davis.

"Nate is a strong man," Baltimore manager Buck Showalter said of McLouth. "Pound for pound he's about as strong as we got. He's put together a good stretch here."

Baltimore struck again in the sixth versus reliever Blake Beavan. Hardy hit a single with one down and Ryan Flaherty moved him to third with a double to left. Dickerson made it 6-0 with a liner up the middle.

The home team finally got on the board in the bottom half. Morse opened up the frame with a solo shot and then Shoppach, facing Tommy Hunter with the bases loaded and no outs, grounded into a fielder's choice to make it 6-2. The next batter, Brendan Ryan, grounded into an inning-ending double play.

The O's added another run in the seventh. Davis and Wieters smacked back-to- back singles with one out and Hardy clubbed a single to give Baltimore a 7-2 advantage.

Game Notes

Maurer had gone 2-1 with a 1.89 ERA in his last three starts ... It was McLouth's second home run of the season ... Machado had two doubles for the O's ... Seattle went 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position and left 10 on base.
