Recap: NY Mets vs. Los Angeles

Flushing, NY (Sports Network) - Juan Uribe's infield single in the top of the ninth inning proved to be the difference, as the Los Angeles Dodgers edged the New York Mets, 3-2, Thursday in the rubber match of a three-game set at Citi Field.

Earlier in the ninth facing Scott Rice (1-1), Andre Ethier's RBI single broke a 1-1 tie. Rice took the loss, though Bobby Parnell gave up Uribe's grounder in the hole at short to make it 3-1.

Dodgers starter Hyun-Jin Ryu impressed and allowed three hits and one run to go along with eight strikeouts over seven innings. Kenley Jansen (1-0) replaced Ryu and struck out two in the eighth to earn the victory.

"That was a big decision for us (to keep Ryu in through seven innings), Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said. "He told us he could do it. It's a big win for us."

David Wright drove in one run and Ike Davis added a solo shot for the Mets in the ninth to account for the final run. Jeremy Hefner tossed seven solid innings and allowed one run on three hits and three walks while fanning four.

"I think we only had three hits off him," Davis added of facing Ryu. "One was a broken bat and the other one was a little soft liner to right. We didn't find a lot of barrels off him."

With the game tied at 1-1 in the eighth, New York opened up the bottom of the frame with runners on first and second and no outs. Jansen regrouped, however, and struck out Wright on three pitches, then retired Lucas Duda and Marlon Byrd with a fly out and strikeout, respectively, to end the inning.

Nick Punto led off the ninth with a double and Adrian Gonzalez moved him to third with a groundout to first base. After Matt Kemp was intentionally walked to put runners on the corners, Ethier came through with a single to give the visitors a one-run lead.

Brandon League pitched around Davis' solo shot in the ninth to secure his sixth save of the season.

"We didn't fold after (Davis') homer," Ethier said. "We kept after it. Maybe this is the turning point in getting us the feeling we can win close games."

It was an offensive struggle through the first five innings. Ryu retired the first seven batters he faced and gave the Mets fits.

In the sixth, though, New York finally got to the lefty. Ruben Tejada walked to lead off the frame and Daniel Murphy followed with a single to right. Tejada advanced to third on a wild pitch to put runners on the corner with one down and Wright clubbed a sacrifice fly to center to tie the game at 1-1.

Kemp, who broke an 86 at-bat homerless streak dating back to last season in Wednesday's 7-3 loss, continued to stay hot with an RBI single in the first inning, scoring Carl Crawford to make it 1-0.
