Recap: Texas vs. Boston

Arlington, TX (Sports Network) - Adrian Beltre knocked home the game-winning run in the ninth and the Texas Rangers finished off a three-game sweep of the Boston Red Sox with a 4-3 victory on Sunday.

With runners on first and second and down in the count 1-2, Beltre lifted an offering from Clayton Mortensen (0-2) just over the glove of Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia.

Elvis Andrus, who reached with a two-out single, scurried home from second on the hit. Nelson Cruz hit a two-run homer and Mitch Moreland hit a solo homer for Texas, which finished a six-game home stand 4-2.

It was an outstanding effort from Rangers starter Yu Darvish, who struck out 14 Red Sox over a seven-inning performance in which he threw a career-high 127 pitches. He gave up three hits -- two homers -- and three runs. Joe Nathan (1-0) picked up the win with a scoreless ninth.

"It's three games. We're not going to get overwhelmed by winning three," Rangers manager Ron Washington said of the sweep.

Boston only had five hits for the game and produced just two over the final seven innings of play. Starter Jon Lester struck out seven over six innings of work, allowing three runs on five hits and three walks.

"We created some opportunities late ... We didn't get that one key hit," Red Sox manager John Farrell said.

The Red Sox got to Darvish early, with David Ortiz reaching him for a two-run homer in the first to extend a 25-game hitting streak. David Ross then clubbed a solo shot in the following inning to help Boston to a 3-0 lead.

Darvish settled down from there, though, giving up just a single and two walks for the rest of his outing. He struck out the side in the sixth, and after Ross walked and stole second in the seventh, Darvish fanned Pedro Ciriaco to get out of the inning unscathed.

Moreland got Texas on the board in the third with his solo homer to left, and the Rangers drew even at 3-3 in the sixth when Cruz launched a two-run shot to straightaway center field.

Boston had a runner on second in the eighth and ninth innings, but couldn't push a run home. Nathan put runners on first and second in the ninth, but struck out Jarrod Saltalamacchia and got Jacoby Ellsbury to ground out to end the inning.

The Red Sox went 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position for the game.

Game Notes

Texas' Ian Kinsler went 1-for-4 to extend his hitting streak to 11 games ... It was Beltre's 12th career game-winning hit ... Texas was 1-for-6 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base.
