Recap: Toronto vs. Chicago WSox

Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - Dayan Viciedo provided the go-ahead score and the Chicago White Sox held on in the bottom of the ninth to take a 4-3 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday at Rogers Centre.

Viciedo's double off Steve Delabar (1-1) in the top half of the frame put the White Sox ahead, 3-2, before Hector Gimenez provided an insurance run with a sacrifice fly.

Addison Reed surrendered a run in the ninth, but locked down his fifth save of the season. Paul Konerko had two of the White Sox' five hits, providing a solo homer with three runs scored in Chicago's second win in eight games.

Matt Lindstrom (1-0) picked up the win by recording the final out of the eighth, and Dylan Axelrod bounced back from a rough outing in his previous start to toss six innings of two-run ball. He struck out four and allowed seven hits.

"He just continues to pitch and get outs," White Sox manager Robin Ventura said of Axelrod. "He battled."

J.P. Arencibia hit his fifth homer of the season and Colby Rasmus hit his fourth for Toronto, which received a sacrifice fly from Brett Lawrie in his return to the lineup from an oblique injury.

Josh Johnson turned in his best performance of the season in the setback, allowing two runs on four hits with eight strikeouts over seven frames.

"He had command of different pitches, was able to locate fastball when he needed to and he threw a great game," said Arencibia.

With the game tied, Delabar replaced Johnson and began his second inning of work in the ninth by issuing walks to Adam Dunn and Konerko, and the White Sox took a 3-2 lead on Viciedo's double over Emilio Bonifacio's head.

With a base open at first, Delabar intentionally walked Alexei Ramirez and was replaced on the mound by Darren Oliver. Gimenez then lifted a sac fly into right to give Reed a two-run cushion to work with.

Reed would need the extra run of support, as he gave up back-to-back singles upon his entrance and saw his lead cut to 4-3 on Lawrie's sac fly, but then retired Rajai Davis and Maicer Izturis in order to end the contest.

Konerko scored the first run of the game in the second inning, crossing the plate on a wild pitch from Johnson. Konerko had reached on a single and advanced to third after Johnson put two more runners on to load the bases.

Toronto countered in the bottom half of the frame, however, on a Rasmus two- out solo homer to straight away center field. Arencibia then added a solo shot to right-center in the sixth to put the Blue Jays in front, 2-1.

Johnson had been in a groove -- retiring 10 straight batters -- but started the seventh by falling behind 3-0 to Konerko, who then tied it back up when he pulled Johnson's next offering into the left field seats.
