Recap: Toronto vs. Boston

Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - Clay Buchholz has had a sensational start to his seventh major league season, and is showing no signs of slowing down.

The Red Sox right-hander fired seven innings of two-hit ball and Boston beat up the Toronto Blue Jays, 10-1, in the second installment of a three-game set at Rogers Centre.

Buchholz (6-0), the first in the majors to six wins, didn't allow a run for the third time this season and racked up eight strikeouts.

He's allowed just five runs in 44 2/3 innings of work this season and is the first Red Sox starter to win his first six starts since Josh Beckett won his first seven in 2007.

"Its fun pitching good, like I said before, there's going to be bumps in the road, there's going to be starts out there when you don't have your best stuff and get hit around a little bit," said Buchholz. "Everybody has to go through it, but I'm going to try and ride the wave as long as its there."

Mike Napoli helped back Buchholz with three of Boston's 15 hits, finishing with two homers, a double, four RBI and three runs scored. Stephen Drew went 3-for-5 with a two-run homer and Daniel Nava and Mike Carp each added a solo shot for the Red Sox, winners in six of their last seven.

Mark Buehrle (1-2) was shelled for five runs on seven hits and three walks over 6 2/3 frames. Toronto had just four hits in dropping its fifth game in six tries. Brett Lawrie's RBI triple represented the team's only score.

"I feel like I'm right there, I'm a few pitches away from a quality start," said Buehrle.

Buehrle gave up three homers in his last start, a loss to the New York Yankees, and surrendered his first of three on Wednesday in the second inning.

After plunking Will Middlebrooks on the foot with a 1-2 offering, Buehrle served up a two-run shot to Drew, whose homer stayed just inside the right field foul pole to stake Boston to a 2-0 lead in the second inning.

Napoli and Nava then struck in the third with back-to-back solo shots for a four-run cushion, and Boston's lead doubled three innings later.

Buehrle got the first two outs of the seventh, but then walked Jonny Gomes as his night came to a close. Esmil Rogers took the hill and promptly gave up a single to Dustin Pedroia. Gomes took third on the hit and then came home on a wild pitch from Rogers to give Boston a six-run lead.

Rogers then intentionally walked Ortiz, and Napoli again came through with a big blast, stroking a three-run homer over the center field wall to push the Red Sox advantage to eight runs.

Buchholz only saw a runner advance past first base in his final inning of work, but with runners and corners and two outs, he fanned J.P. Arencibia to get out of the frame unscathed.

Lawrie ripped an RBI triple in the eighth off Boston reliever Alex Wilson, but the Red Sox kept tacking on scores in the ninth, with Carp hitting a solo homer and Nava contributing an RBI single.

Game Notes

Boston's David Ortiz was 1-for-3 with a double and has recorded a hit in each of his first 10 games this season, and has a 22-game streak going dating back to last year ... Toronto' Edwin Encarnacion went 0-for-4, ending an eight-game hit streak.
