Recap: Toronto vs. Atlanta

Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - Interleague play has given Atlanta the option of playing both their hot-hitting catchers.

Each delivered for the Braves on Tuesday.

Brian McCann smacked a pair of solo homers, including a go-ahead leadoff shot in the top of the 10th inning, to lift the Braves to a 7-6 win over the Toronto Blue Jays in the finale of a brief two-game set.

McCann banged the second pitch of the 10th against Thad Weber (0-1) deep into the seats in right center, and Craig Kimbrel worked around a leadoff walk in the home half to notch his 16th save of the year.

Evan Gattis, who started at catcher, and McCann cracked back-to-back solo homers in the sixth inning for Atlanta, which snapped a two-game skid on the heels of an eight-game winning streak.

"We've been doing it all year," McCann said of his team's homer-hitting ways. "I think people are getting lost with all the strikeouts, and that's what everyone wants to talk about. But we are sitting in first place."

As the All-Star catcher McCann began the season on the disabled list after having surgery to repair his shoulder in October, the rookie Gattis capitalized.

Gattis, who currently leads the club with 32 RBI, was named the NL Rookie of the Month in April after hitting .250 with seven homers and 17 RBI, but McCann came back in early May and Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez had to find other ways to plug Gattis into the lineup.

Jordan Schafer hit a solo shot among his two hits and scored twice, while Cory Gearrin (2-1) picked up the win with a 1-2-3 ninth.

Jose Bautista tallied a solo homer among his two hits and scored three times for the Blue Jays, who had won four of their last six contests coming in.

Toronto starter Brandon Morrow was taken out after two innings due to discomfort in his forearm.

"It wasn't pain...it was just constant soreness," Morrow said.

Atlanta opened the scoring with three runs in the first before Toronto responded with four in the home half.

With runners on the corners and one out in the top half of the frame, Freddie Freeman grounded an RBI single through the hole on the right side. Andrelton Simmons went first-to-third on the play, then also scored on Bautista's throwing error into third. Freeman crossed the plate two batters later on Edwin Encarnacion's throwing error to Morrow covering first, after he made a fine diving play on a grounder off the bat of McCann.

Encarnacion belted a one-out RBI double, Mark DeRosa ripped a two-run double into the gap in left-center and Colby Rasmus' RBI base hit back through the box made it 4-3 in favor of Toronto after one inning of play.

Schafer's blast in the second knotted the tilt before Bautista put the Blue Jays back on top, 5-4, when he mashed a hanging curveball over the wall in left in the fourth.

In the sixth, Gattis lined a 2-1 fastball into the seats in left for his 12th homer of the year before McCann cracked a full-count slider into the second deck in right to give Atlanta a 6-5 lead.

J.P. Arencibia's RBI double into left center in the seventh knotted the tilt at 6-6.

Gattis struck out swinging against Steve Delabar with runners on second and third in the ninth to send the game into extras.
