Recap: Philadelphia vs. Miami

Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Kyle Kendrick continued his dominance over the Marlins and Domonic Brown's bat remained hot, as the Philadelphia Phillies downed Miami, 7-2, in the opener of a three-game set at Citizens Bank Park.

Kendrick (6-3) spun his second complete game of the season to earn his 10th straight win over the Marlins, while Brown, who was named NL Player of the Month earlier Monday after clubbing 12 homers in May, went deep for the ninth time in 10 games.

Kendrick struck out five and held the Marlins to two runs on six hits. The right-hander also did damage at the plate, stroking his first career triple to go with an RBI and a run scored in the Phillies' second straight win.

"It was fun," Kendrick said. "Obviously, the hit was awesome. My dad was here, so I'm sure he enjoyed it."

Brown finished 3-for-4 to extend his hit streak to eight games, while Delmon Young and Erik Kratz each added a solo shot for the Phillies, who improved to 20-6 when scoring more than three runs this season.

Derek Dietrich and Marcell Ozuna each knocked in a run for Miami, which was coming off its first series sweep of the season against the New York Mets.

Starter Tom Koehler (0-4) was tagged for five runs -- four earned -- on seven hits over five-plus frames to absorb the loss.

"It was a good game the first four innings," Marlins manager Mike Redmond said. "In the fifth and sixth, they put up some good at-bats, and we couldn't hold them down."

Philadelphia struggled to put anything together against Koehler and trailed 2-0 before pushing across three runs in the fifth.

Kratz led off the frame with a blast to left-center field before Kendrick followed two batters later with a line drive into the gap in left-center that trickled to the wall, allowing Kendrick to reach third.

Ben Revere then slapped a single to left to score Kendrick before stealing second and moving to third on catcher Rob Brantly's throwing error.

Cesar Hernandez scored Revere with a groundout to give the Phils a 3-2 lead.

Kendrick retired the Marlins in order in the sixth before the Phillies tacked on four more in the bottom half to blow the game open.

Ryan Howard clubbed a leadoff double and Brown followed with a towering fly ball into the right-field seats to make it 5-2.

Brown's blast chased Koehler from the contest but the results remained the same, as Young drove reliever Ryan Webb's third offering over the wall in left to push the lead to 6-2.

After Kratz struck out, Freddy Galvis tripled to right and then beat Adeiny Hechavarria's throw to the plate on Kendrick's ground ball to make it 7-2.

The run support was more than enough for Kendrick, who retired the final 15 hitters he faced in order to complete his fourth career complete game.

Early on, the Marlins pushed a pair of runs across in the third to jump in front.

Juan Pierre smacked a one-out single and Ed Lucas walked before Dietrich and Ozuna stroked back-to-back RBI singles to give Miami a 2-0 lead.
