Recap: Philadelphia vs. Washington

Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - A 70-minute rain delay at the outset could not derail Cliff Lee, who won his seventh straight decision and the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Washington Nationals, 4-2, in the middle installment of a three-game set.

Lee (9-2) gave up two runs on five hits in eight innings. He struck out nine and did not issue a walk en route to Philadelphia's second straight win and fourth in six.

"I definitely wanted to throw strikes and work ahead in the count," said Lee. "That's what I try to do every game, tonight I was able to do that. For the most part it was locating the fastball and staying out of hitter-friendly counts."

Michael Young went 3-for-4 with three doubles. He also knocked in a run, the 999th of his career.

Ross Detwiler (2-5) went toe-to-toe with Lee before three runs in the sixth inning gave him the loss. Jayson Werth and Jeff Kobernus launched solo home runs for Washington.

Werth, accompanied by the expected "boos" from the hometown faithful, gave the Nationals the lead in fourth inning when he lined a first-pitch cutter over the left-field fence.

Philadelphia tied the game in the bottom half of the frame after Young led off with the first of his doubles. After a sacrifice moved him to third, Ryan Howard lofted a sacrifice fly to right-center field to tie the score.

The Phillies broke the game open in the sixth inning. Ben Revere started the inning with a bunt single. Young put the Phillies ahead when he lined an RBI double into the right-field corner. After Jimmy Rollins singled and Howard walked, Kevin Frandsen laced a single to left field to score two and cap the rally.

"Det was matching [Lee] pitch for pitch," said Nationals manager Davey Johnson. "He looked like he got out of sorts in the sixth. The ball started coming up. You just have to tip your hat to Mr Lee, he pitched a heck of a ball game."

Kobernus slammed his one-out homer in the eighth inning to cap the scoring.

Jonathan Papelbon, who blew his first save of the season Monday, tossed a scoreless ninth to earn his 14th save.
