Recap: Philadelphia vs. NY Mets

Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Not many would have expected Cole Hamels to be the majors' first 11-game loser this season.

Juan Lagares doubled home the go-ahead run with two outs in the sixth inning off the former World Series MVP, and the New York Mets rallied to beat the Philadelphia Phillies, 4-3, in the opener of a three-game series at Citizens Bank Park.

Hamels (2-11) didn't yield a hit through the first three innings, but the Mets scored at least a run in three straight frames from the fourth to erase a 3-0 deficit and end a five-game losing streak to Philadelphia.

"Today was game that I feel like we could have seized. It was a good opportunity and I wasn't able to take care of what I needed to take care of on the field," Hamels said.

Eric Young Jr. played a key role in New York tying the game. He scored the team's first run on a David Wright single after leading off the fourth with a double, then drove in a pair with a two-out single into center field during the next inning.

After catching a Carlos Ruiz fly ball in center for the final out with the bases loaded in the bottom of the fifth, Lagares put the Mets ahead. He sent a Hamels offering to the gap in left-center and Lucas Duda, who walked earlier, scored all the way from first base after sliding just under the tag.

New York relievers Scott Rice, Carlos Torres and Bobby Parnell each tossed a hitless frame to close out the game, with Parnell finishing things off in the ninth for his 12th save.

"I thought this was a great win for us. We're down 3-0 with Cole Hamels on the mound. To come back and win this one was big," said New York manager Terry Collins.

The Phillies scored all three runs in the second inning against New York starter Jeremy Hefner (2-6). Ryan Howard and Domonic Brown opened the frame with back-to-back doubles to produce a run. Brown advanced to third on a Delmon Young single and scored on a fielder's choice.

Ruiz then singled in front of a Hamels sacrifice bunt before Mets second baseman Daniel Murphy misplayed a routine ground ball hit by Jimmy Rollins, allowing Ben Revere to score.
