Recap: Arizona vs. Philadelphia

Phoenix, AZ (Sports Network) - Ryan Howard hit a go-ahead two-run single in the 10th inning to lift the Philadelphia Phillies past the Arizona Diamondbacks, 4-2, in the finale of a four-game set at Chase Field.

Jimmy Rollins singled and Chase Utley doubled to put runners at second and third with one out in the top of the 10th. Howard then ripped a base hit to right field off Matt Reynolds (0-1), who hadn't allowed a run all season, to put the Phillies ahead 4-2.

"When he's (Howard) going bad or someting, he looks bad, but he can take one swing and he can get you back in the game or get it over," Phillies manager Charlie Manuel said of Howard, who was hitless in his previous 18 at-bats prior to his two-run single.

Utley finished the game 4-for-5 with a pair of doubles and scored twice, while Delmon Young collected two hits for the Phillies, winners in back- to-back games who earned a split of the series.

Justin De Fratus (1-0) recorded the final out of the ninth inning to earn the win, with Jonathan Papelbon stranding a runner on second in the 10th to notch his seventh save of the season.

Gerardo Parra hit a solo homer and A.J. Pollock also drove in a run for the D'backs, who lost for just the second time in seven games. Starter Brandon McCarthy scattered seven hits over eight shutout innings in a no-decision.

"I felt pretty good, settled in early and got comfortable. I was able to keep executing pitches and executing my mechanics, which kind of lends me to being able to get much deeper into games," McCarthy said.

The Phillies scored a pair of runs in the ninth to tie the game at 2-2. Utley opened the inning with a double, then moved to third on Howard's groundout. Young followed with a double to right field to score Utley.

Domonic Brown then cracked a base hit to left to bring home John Mayberry, who replaced Young on the bases, to tie the game.

Arizona scored its only runs in the first inning. Parra opened the game with a homer off Kyle Kendrick and Didi Gregorius followed with a triple, but was thrown out at the plate on Miguel Montero's grounder to first base.

Pollock, though, singled to score Eric Chavez, who reached on a throwing error earlier in the frame.

In the fourth, Arizona's Jason Kubel lifted a fly ball deep to left field, but Brown leaped at the wall and robbed him of what would have been a home run.
