Recap: Arizona vs. Atlanta

Phoenix, AZ (Sports Network) - Patrick Corbin turned in another solid performance, tossing seven innings of scoreless ball and Arizona completed a four-hit shutout of the Atlanta Braves with a 2-0 victory on Tuesday.

Corbin (6-0) walked five and didn't have his best stuff, but scattered just three hits and was good enough to help the D'backs rebound from a blowout loss in Monday's series opener and end a three-game skid.

"Coming off yesterday, I wanted to come in and get a good feeling in this clubhouse again," said Corbin. "Go out there and attack these guys, go after them. They are a pretty good hitting team"

He has not allowed more than two runs in any of his eight starts this season and is the first Arizona pitcher since Brandon Webb in 2008 to start 6-0.

Didi Gregorius provided the offense with a two-run single, while David Hernandez and Heath Bell kept the lead in tact with a scoreless inning of work. Bell notched his fifth save.

Julio Teheran (2-1) was saddled with his first loss of the season despite a strong effort. He went six innings and was charged with both runs on seven hits.

"It's a shame Teheran gets the loss on a night where he pitched pretty well," said Atlanta manager Fredi Gonzalez.

Justin Upton wasn't nearly as successful as his first game back in Arizona, going 0-for-2. The Braves were 0-for-4 with runners in scoring position and never put a runner on third base.

The D'backs scored both their runs in the third, which Cliff Pennington led off with a single and advanced two bases on Gerardo Parra's double. Gregorius then came through with a two-run single to center to give Arizona a 2-0 edge.

That's all the support Corbin would need, and although he walked five batters, three of them led to double plays. The 23-year-old lefty wrapped up his outing by keeping Arizona from advancing past first base over his final four innings of work.

Pinch-hitter Brian McCann represented the tying run at the plate in the eighth following Andrelton Simmons one-out bloop single. McCann hit a solo homer and drove in three on Monday, but Hernandez struck him out.

Upton, who racked four hits against his former club in his return to Chase Field on Monday, also went down swinging to end the Braves' last threat.

Bell worked around first baseman Paul Goldschmidt's error in the ninth by striking out Evan Gattis and Dan Uggla, and then getting Chris Johnson to fly out to end the game.

Johnson headlines FCS players of the week

In 2013, the Montana State Bobcats made a bit of an offensive switch, going from a pass-heavy system to a more run- integrated style of play. The reason wasn't because the team was unstable at quarterback, but rather due to the fact the Bobcats were loaded at the running back position.
