Recap: Chicago WSox vs. Miami

Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Jake Peavy lost out on his bid to record his seventh career shutout, but not the win after the Chicago White Sox scored in the bottom of the ninth inning to come through with a 2-1 verdict over the Miami Marlins in an interleague matchup from U.S. Cellular Field.

Peavy (6-2) was two outs away from finishing off a 1-0 victory when Derek Dietrich belted a solo homer in the top of the ninth. He was picked up in the White Sox' half of the frame, though, when Dewayne Wise doubled off Ryan Webb (1-3) and Conor Gillaspie followed with a single to bring home the deciding run.

"Nobody wants to play extra innings. I was just able to lead off with a double and Conor just did what he's been doing all year and came up with a big hit. No we can go home," Wise said.

Gillaspie's hit capped a 3-for-4 night, while Peavy yielded just six hits and two walks while striking out five in going the distance.

Alexi Ramirez added two hits, including an RBI double, to help Chicago to its eighth triumph in 11 outings. Alex Rios finished 0-for-4, however, to end his career-best hitting streak at 18 games.

Dietrich's shot took Ricky Nolasco off the hook for a hard-luck loss. The Miami starter held the White Sox to only one run while scattering eight hits and fanning six over 7 2/3 sharp innings.

"I feel good. The only thing I can concentrate on is going out every fifth day and getting guys out. I'm just staying focused on what I can do every fifth day," Nolasco said.

The Marlins have now dropped four straight and 11 of their last 13 games.

Peavy toyed with the majors' lowest-scoring team for the majority of the evening, setting the side down in order in three of his first four innings of work and not allowing a runner past second base until Dietrich stepped to the plate with one out in the top of the ninth.

The rookie socked a 1-2 pitch into the seats in right-center field to deny the veteran hurler the shutout, though the White Sox had a quick response in the bottom of the inning.

Peavy shook off the homer to get the next two outs, and Wise led off Chicago's half of the ninth with a double down the left-field line before Gillaspie gave the home team its second walk-off win in as many nights with an opposite-field single.

The White Sox topped the Marlins, 4-3, in 11 innings in Friday's opener of this three-game series. Webb took the loss in that one as well.

Nolasco worked out of trouble in the second, with the White Sox loading the bases with two outs on singles by Paul Konerko, Gillaspie and Jeff Keppinger before Hector Gimenez grounded out to end the frame.

He couldn't escape unscathed in the third, however, as Alejandro De Aza opened with a base hit and Ramirez followed with a drive into the left-field corner that brought home the game's first run.

Nolasco settled down, however, and kept Miami in the game by permitting just three hits after the Ramirez double until being lifted with one on and two outs in the eighth.
