Recap: Milwaukee vs. Minnesota

Milwaukee, WI (Sports Network) - Joe Mauer and Chris Parmelee each hit solo homers as the Minnesota Twins downed the lowly Milwaukee Brewers, 6-3, in the opener of a two-game interleague set at Miller Park.

Ryan Doumit supplied a two-run single, while Justin Morneau and Pedro Florimon each drove in one run for the Twins, who have won two of three following a 10- game losing streak.

Starter Kevin Correia (5-4) allowed three homers, but pitched well enough to earn the win over six innings, his first victory since May 9.

"Correia got us through six, It was a good win for us," Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said. "It's how you draw it up. We'll take anything we can get right now."

Two days after recording his first career multi-homer game, Carlos Gomez went deep twice again on Monday and Jean Segura added another blast for the Brewers, losers of three straight and six of eight overall.

Wily Peralta (3-6) lost his fourth straight start after yielding four runs -- three earned -- on five hits and five walks over five frames.

Peralta retired the first two batters of the game, but issued consecutive walks to Mauer and Josh Willingham to keep the frame alive. Morneau's single to left scored Mauer to put the Twins ahead 1-0.

"Wily's biggest problem is walks," Milwaukee manager Ron Roenicke said. "They get two outs, then runners at first and second due to walks, pitches that weren't that close. They got a run that inning. We are not getting any breaks. I keep saying we are not playing well enough to get any breaks."

Minnesota added another run in the fourth thanks to Florimon's two-out RBI double. With Aaron Hicks on first, Peralta attempted a pickoff move, but first baseman Alex Gonzalez couldn't handle the throw. Hicks moved to second and, and Florimon made Peralta pay with a run-scoring double to make it 2-0.

Correia served up a gift to Gomez in the home half of the inning, as he smacked a no-doubter to left-center on a 1-1 offering to make it 2-1.

Brian Dozier helped the Twins plate two more runs in the fifth by reaching on an infield single and swiping second. Mauer and Morneau each drew walks around an out before Doumit's two-run single made it 4-1.

The Brewers made things interesting versus Correia in the sixth as Segura pummeled a shot to center to open up the inning and Gomez made it back-to- back home runs with his second of the game, this time to left, making it 4-3. The hosts, however, failed to find much offense for the rest of the game.

"I was kind of off in the first," Correai said. "To get out of that with no runs was huge. You just feel so much better going back out there in the second inning. It changes your mind set. I felt great the rest of the game."

Mauer and Parmelee added some insurance for the visitors in the seventh and eighth innings, respectively. Both went deep for their fourth home runs of the season, increasing the lead to three runs.

Glen Perkins retired the side in order in the ninth to secure his 10th save of the season.

Game Notes

Brewers third baseman Aramis Ramirez had the day off ... Milwaukee has scored just 21 runs over its last eight contests ... Peralta has allowed 16 earned runs over his last 17 2/3 innings ... Mauer's homer was originally ruled a double, but the umpires reviewed it and overturned the ruling.
