Recap: Milwaukee vs. LA Angels

Milwaukee, WI (Sports Network) - Jered Weaver tossed six strong innings to help the LA Angels of Anaheim take down the Milwaukee Brewers, 5-0, in the opener of a three-game set from Miller Park.

Weaver (9-7) was pulled for a pinch-hitter in the top of the seventh after throwing 104 pitches, yielding just three hits and three walks before giving way to the bullpen.

"Obviously we had a big seventh inning. I had to battle today, defense played well behind me and Hank (Conger) called a good game. It was a good combination," Weaver said.

Kole Calhoun went 2-for-3 with his fifth home run of the season while Grant Green drove in three for Los Angeles, which improved to 6-1 on its current nine-game road trip.

Wily Peralta (8-14) went six-plus innings, allowing three runs and four hits while whiffing six. Milwaukee has lost two of three.

"You want to try and keep the game in line, especially when you don't get much run support. One run can end up being the difference," said Peralta.

After three scoreless innings, Calhoun put LA ahead with his no-doubt shot to right-center in the fourth.

Weaver ran into trouble in the home half of the inning, hitting Carlos Gomez with a pitch between singles by Aramis Ramirez and Scooter Gennett to load the bags with one away. Milwaukee failed to turn the opportunity into runs, however, when Martin Maldonado swung 3-0 and popped out to first before Peralta flied out to center.

Peralta walked Calhoun and allowed Mark Trumbo to single to center before recording an out in the top of the seventh, prompting the Brewers to go to their bullpen. Rob Wooten took the hill and struck out Hank Conger before surrendering consecutive hits, a single to Luis Jimenez which loaded the bases and a bases-clearing double by Green.

Two batters later, J.B. Shuck slapped a 0-1 offering to right-center, plating Green for the Angels' fifth run.

The Brewers loaded the bases again in the seventh but Gomez lined to second, keeping the shutout intact.

Game Notes

Weaver's 1.82 ERA ranks second best in the majors in interleague games since 2008 behind Seattle's Felix Hernandez (1.03) ... The Angels improve to 43-26 when scoring first this season ... Milwaukee hit 2-for-13 with runners in scoring position and left 13 men on base.
