Recap: Los Angeles vs. Atlanta

Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Kris Medlen tossed 6 2/3 shutout innings and also homered to lead the Atlanta Braves to a 2-1 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday.

Medlen (3-6) allowed five hits and one walk while striking out six to win his second straight start.

"For the most part I controlled the walks and attacked the strike zone. For me to hit my first home run in Dodger Stadium is great. I dreamed of this as a kid," said Medlen, who is an LA native.

Dan Uggla also homered for the Braves, who dropped the first two games of this four-game set at Dodger Stadium.

Craig Kimbrel stranded a runner at second in the ninth inning to earn his 18th save of the season.

Hanley Ramirez drove in the lone run for Los Angeles with a pinch-hit single in the eighth inning. Yasiel Puig added a pair of hits and Skip Schumaker went 3-for-4 in the setback.

Stephen Fife (1-1) gave up both homers among the nine hits he surrendered over 6 2/3 innings. He struck out seven and walked one to absorb his first loss of the season.

"Fife was really good and had control of his fastball and curve. It took two solo homers to beat him," said Dodgers manager Don Mattingly.

Uggla and Medlen both homered in the fifth inning to give the Braves a 2-0 edge.

The Dodgers finally broke through in the eighth inning. Nick Punto grounded into what appeared to be a tailor-made double play, but Andrelton Simmons' throw was off target and bounced into the stands allowing Punto to take second base. Adrian Gonzalez followed with a groundout that moved Punto to third before Ramirez ripped a pinch-hit single up the middle to make it 2-1.

Los Angeles looked poised to tie the game in the ninth inning. Schumaker, who scored the game-winning run Friday, led off with a base hit to right field. After a wild pitch allowed Schumaker to move to second, pinch-hitter Ramon Hernandez grounded out.

Mark Ellis, who entered the game 0-for-3 with two strikeouts against Kimbrel, worked a a full count, but chased a 97 mph fastball out of the zone to end the game.

Game Notes

Medlen's homer in the fifth was the first of his career ... Atlanta was 0- for-8 with runners in scoring position ... Schumaker extended his hitting streak to 14 games ... A total of 63 of Fife's 86 pitches were strikes.
