Recap: St. Louis vs. NY Mets

St. Louis, MO (Sports Network) - Daniel Descalso scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch in the seventh inning to lift the St. Louis Cardinals past the New York Mets, 4-2, in the third of a four-game set at Busch Stadium.

With runners on the corners and two outs, reliever Scott Rice bounced a sinker past catcher John Buck, allowing Descalso to score from third.

Jon Jay, Tony Cruz and Yadier Molina had an RBI apiece for the Cardinals, who have taken the first three games of the series.

Seth Maness (3-0) earned the win despite giving up a two-run homer to Rick Ankiel in the seventh inning, and Edward Mujica picked up his 11th save of the season after spinning a perfect ninth.

Starter Shelby Miller worked 5 2/3 innings of scoreless ball, allowing four hits and one walk while striking out six. Miller, who had retired 27-straight hitters in his previous start, saw his streak reach 29 batters until giving up a single to David Wright in the first inning.

"It was a battle out there for me," Miller said. "The fastball command wasn't nearly as good as it was the last start. I was leaving it up in the zone, which raised my pitch count up through the first three innings. I got away with some mistakes."

Shaun Marcum (0-4) was tagged for three runs -- two earned -- on five hits over 6 2/3 innings to absorb the loss.

The Cards scored a pair of runs in the fourth inning. With one on and two outs, Jay ripped a double to right field, scoring Matt Holliday. Cruz followed with a base hit to left to bring Jay around.

Ankiel's two-run shot in the seventh evened the score. Buck singled before Ankiel clubbed his sixth homer of the season -- and first with the Mets -- into the seats in left-center.

"They've got good pitching. Don't let anybody kid you," New York manager Terry Collins said. "They've got real good pitching, and they come out of that bullpen roaring. So they're tough to beat. And when they're swinging like they're swinging, they're real tough to beat."

Game Notes

St. Louis will send Adam Wainwright to the mound Thursday as the Cardinals look to complete a four-game sweep. New York will counter with Jonathan Niese ... St. Louis was out-hit 7-6 ... The Mets went 0-for-4 with runners in scoring position.
