Recap: San Francisco vs. Toronto

San Francisco, CA (Sports Network) - Andres Torres hit a two-run homer to back seven solid innings from Tim Lincecum, as the San Francisco Giants beat the Toronto Blue Jays, 2-1, in the opener of a brief two-game series.

Lincecum (4-5) gave up one run on three hits while striking out six for the Giants, who have won two in a row since a two-game skid. The right-hander had lost his previous three starts.

"Working my fastball to both sides of the plate, that was the biggest thing today," Lincecum said of his success. "It opened up my secondary pitches. I expanded the zone and tried to stay aggressive."

Edwin Encarnacion hit a solo homer for the Blue Jays, who fell to 2-4 on a seven-game road trip.

Toronto starter Josh Johnson (0-2), who was activated from the 15-day disabled list prior to the game, allowed two runs -- one earned -- on six hits while striking out six over seven innings. The right-hander appeared in his first game since being sidelined with right triceps soreness in late April.

The Blue Jays' lone run of the game came in the first inning. After Jose Bautista grounded into a double play, Encarnacion homered to center.

The Giants scored the only two runs they would need in the second. Hunter Pence reached first on Encarnacion's throwing error from third. Two batters later, Torres smacked Johnson's offering over the wall in center.

"If he hits it out there, you have to tip your cap to him," Johnson said of Torres' homer. "That's a pretty deep part of the ballpark."

Lincecum kept San Francisco in front by retiring 14 straight batters. That streak came to an end with one out in the sixth, when he walked Johnson. Melky Cabrera, the former Giant, followed with a single to put men on first and second. Bautista lined out to third baseman Pablo Sandoval, who threw to second base to start a controversial double play.

Jeremy Affeldt and Sergio Romo tossed a scoreless eighth and ninth, respectively, to secure the victory. Romo picked up his 16th save of the season.
