Recap: Kansas City vs. LA Angels

Kansas City, MO (Sports Network) - J.B. Shuck and Erick Aybar smacked consecutive RBI singles as part of a three-run seventh inning that helped the streaking LA Angels of Anaheim complete a four-game sweep of the Kansas City Royals with a 5-2 victory Sunday at Kauffman Stadium.

Josh Hamilton started the seventh with a solo shot, while Chris Iannetta and Shuck each added a run-scoring single in the eighth to lift the red-hot Angels to their season-high eighth straight victory.

"It's feeding off each other as far as getting hits at the right time with guys in scoring position," Hamilton said of the team's winning streak. "Getting a break or two here and there. All those are contributing factors to winning ballgames."

Jerome Williams (4-1) allowed just two runs on seven hits and two walks over six innings to earn the victory. Ernesto Frieri survived a shaky ninth to secure his 10th save of the season.

David Lough recorded the lone RBI for the Royals, who lost five straight and nine of their last 10 since taking two of three from the Angels on May 13-15.

Wade Davis (3-4) was charged for three runs on six hits and two walks over 6 1/3 frames to absorb the loss.

Davis fanned six over six scoreless innings, but ran into trouble in the seventh when Hamilton clubbed the righty's first offering over the right-field wall to bring the Halos within 2-1.

Davis then issued a pair of walks around Alberto Callaspo's pop out to spell the end of his outing, as Bruce Chen took over on the mound.

Shuck scorched Chen's first pitch down the left-field line to plate the game- tying run before Aybar put the Angels in front when he smacked a first-pitch curveball to left to make it 3-2 LA.

The Angels tacked on two more in the eighth, as Mark Trumbo worked a leadoff walk before Howie Kendrick was hit by a pitch two batters later.

Aaron Crow then replaced Luke Hochevar on the hill and got Callaspo to fly out, but Iannetta and Shuck came through with back-to-back RBI singles to push LA's lead to 5-2.

Frieri allowed the first two runners to reach in the ninth, but retired the next three Royals in order to nail down the victory.

Kansas City struck first in the second when Lough launched a two-out triple to right to score Lorenzo Cain, who grounded into a double play before stealing second prior to Lough's hit.

The Royals doubled their edge in the fifth, as George Kottaras worked a one- out walk, stole second and then found third on Alcides Escobar's two-out single.

With Alex Gordon batting, Williams tried to pickoff Escobar at first, but his throw sailed wide, allowing Kottaras to score for a 2-0 Kansas City lead.

Gordon ended up singling to put runners on second and third, but Billy Butler was called out on strikes to end the inning. Butler argued the call and was ejected by home plate umpire Marty Foster.

"I'm going to try and control my emotions a little bit better the next time," Butler said. "You always want to work on that. I'll definitely try to. I'm not saying it's never going to happen again."
