Recap: Minnesota vs. Texas

Minneapolis, MN (Sports Network) - Nick Tepesch tossed 6 2/3 strong innings to help the Texas Rangers take a 2-1 win over the Minnesota Twins in the opener of a four-game set on Thursday.

Tepesch (2-1) gave up just one run on five hits while Nelson Cruz and Elvis Andrus each drove in a run for the Rangers, who have won six of seven.

Josh Willingham's home run accounted for the only offense for the Twins, who have dropped their past two. Vance Worley (0-3) gave up two runs on six hits over five innings to take the loss.

Texas went on top in the second inning as Adrian Beltre doubled to leadoff, moved to third on an A.J. Pierzynski groundout and easily scored off a Cruz single.

In the fifth, the Rangers made it a 2-0 game when Leonys Martin singled with out and later scored off an Andrus double.

Tepesch cruised through the first four innings, retiring all 12 batters he faced.

Justin Morneau got the Twins into the hit column with a leadoff single in the fourth, but he was stranded at second and the team wasted another leadoff basehit in the sixth, this time from Aaron Hicks.

Willingham smoked a pitch over the left field wall in the seventh to get the Twins on the board, but the team stranded two men on base in the inning.

In the eighth, the Twins had an opportunity to tie the game or even go ahead as they loaded the bases with one out, but Willingham grounded into a 6-4-3 double play to end the frame.

Joe Nathan worked around a two-out single in the ninth to pick up his seventh save of the season.
