Recap: Minnesota vs. Texas

Minneapolis, MN (Sports Network) - Justin Morneau hit a two-run homer and Kevin Correia spun eight scoreless frames, as the Minnesota Twins earned a four-game series split with a 5-0 victory over the Texas Rangers on Sunday.

Correia (3-1) paved the way for Minnesota's first shutout of the season, forcing 13 ground ball outs and allowing just six hits and one walk.

Brian Dozier and Jamey Carroll added two hits and an RBI apiece, while Chris Parmelee contributed a sacrifice fly to help the Twins (11-10) earn their second straight win and get back over the .500 mark.

"That's our goal, to surprise some people and make a push in this division," said Correia. "To be above .500, its a good sign but we have a long way to go."

Mitch Moreland and Leonys Martin each had two hits, with Texas managing only seven as a team and finishing 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position. For the first time this season, the Rangers have dropped back-to-back games.

"Some of it you have to tip your hat to the guys that executed pitches," said Rangers designated hitter Lance Berkman, who went 0-for-3. "Kevin (Correia) is a very, very good major league starter. He's got a quality arsenal and knows how to pitch."

Texas starter Alexi Ogando (2-2) lasted six innings and was tagged for three runs on four hits and two walks.

The Twins plated their first run in the fourth. Josh Willingham drew a one-out walk and advanced to third on Morneau's soft fly ball into right. Parmelee then lifted a sac fly into center for a 1-0 Minnesota lead.

Texas put at least one runner in scoring position in the third, fourth and fifth innings, but Correia came away unscathed every time and the Twins broke it open with a pair of runs in the sixth and seventh frames.

Willingham drew a two-out walk in the sixth, and Morneau followed by ripping an Ogando offering into the seats in right field.

Joe Ortiz, who replaced Ogando to begin the seventh, surrendered consecutive singles but got a force out at third base on Eduardo Escobar's sacrifice bunt attempt. Twins manager Ron Gardenhire thought his runner, Oswaldo Arcia, was safe on the play and got ejected arguing the call.

Still, the Twins were able to come way with a 5-0 lead by inning's end after Carroll and Dozier each knocked in a run with back-to-back singles off Ortiz and reliever Jason Frasor, respectively.

Texas went without an extra base hit for the contest.
