Recap: Minnesota vs. Philadelphia

Minneapolis, MN (Sports Network) - Clete Thomas clubbed a game-tying double before scoring the go-ahead run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift the Minnesota Twins to a 4-3 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies in the middle test of a three-game set at Target Field.

Oswaldo Arcia started the eighth with a double off Antonio Bastardo (2-2) and scored on Thomas' two-bagger off the right-field wall.

Eduardo Escobar followed with a bunt single to put runners on the corners before Justin De Fratus entered from the bullpen and got Pedro Florimon to line out sharply to second.

De Fratus, though, was unable to escape the jam, as he uncorked a wild pitch with Chris Parmelee at the plate, allowing Thomas to race home for the deciding run.

"I was going right away," Thomas said. "I saw it squirt away and I was going and just hoping it didn't kick hard off that wall. It stayed back there."

Glen Perkins pitched a perfect ninth to nail down his 15th save and Brian Duensing (2-1) earned the victory after recording the final two outs in the eighth.

Thomas finished 4-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored, while Arcia added three hits and three runs scored for the Twins, who stole Tuesday's opener by a 3-2 margin after Justin Morneau ripped a go-ahead single in the eighth.

Former Twin Ben Revere went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored in the Phillies' fifth straight loss, with Domonic Brown and Delmon Young each adding an RBI in the setback.

"I think that we keep going and keep trying to grind it out and then we'll see what kind of players we've got as far as mental toughness and hard-nosed and things like that," Phillies manager Charlie Manuel said of his team's struggles.

The Phillies pounced on Minnesota starter Mike Pelfrey in the first, as Revere and Jimmy Rollins smacked back-to-back one-out singles before Ryan Howard walked to load the bases.

Brown followed with a sacrifice fly to left field to score Revere before Young ripped a base hit through the right side of the infield to plate Rollins from second for a 2-0 lead.

The Twins finally got to Philadelphia starter Tyler Cloyd in the fourth when Arcia stroked a leadoff single and sped around the bases on Thomas' double into the gap in right-center.

Revere restored the Phillies' two-run lead in the fifth when he blooped a single into shallow center field to score Michael Young, who doubled with two outs in the frame.

Minnesota got the run back in the sixth, as Arcia and Thomas started the inning with back-to-back singles before both runners moved up a base on Escobar's sacrifice bunt.

Florimon then grounded out on a slow roller down the first-base line, allowing Arcia to score to bring the Twins within 3-2.

Extra Points: Two wrongs don't make a right for Goodell

The fact that we look to Roger Goodell and the NFL to take the lead on any number of social issues should say more about us as a society than the commissioner or the league he lords over.
