Jupiter, FL (Sports Network) - Matt Adams hit a three-run homer and Jon Jay added a solo shot as part of a four-run first inning that helped the St. Louis Cardinals down the Washington Nationals, 5-1, in spring training action.

Cardinals starter Adam Wainwright surrendered just a run on three hits and a walk over six solid innings.

Steve Lombardozzi had the lone RBI for Washington. Starter Dan Haren allowed five runs and six hits over five innings.
