Recap: Milwaukee vs. Oakland

Maryvale, AZ (Sports Network) - Jean Segura knocked in Carlos Gomez on a groundout in the fifth inning, as Milwaukee nipped Oakland, 2-1, in the Cactus League opener for both clubs.

Ryan Braun added a first-inning homer for the Brewers, who are looking to improve upon a third-place finish in the NL Central in 2012.

Mike Fiers got the start and the win with two innings of one-hit, scoreless ball during which he fanned two and walked as many.

Tashard Choice drove in the lone run for the Athletics, who are coming off a surprise AL West title.

Jesse Chavez took the loss, charged with a run and two walks in two full frames.

Regan Smith substituted for Kyle Larson in the No. 42 Chip Ganassi Racing Chevrolet in Sunday's Sprint Cup Series race at Martinsville Speedway after Larson was sidelined due to additional medical tests following his fainting spell on Saturday.
