Recap: Miami vs. San Diego

Miami, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Giancarlo Stanton set the tone with a towering home run and Adeiny Hechavarria had four hits as the Miami Marlins continued their hot start to the season with an 8-2 takedown of the San Diego Padres on Friday.

Jarrod Saltalamacchia went 3-for-4 with two RBI and Casey McGehee drove in a pair for Miami, which moved to 4-1 on the season. Stanton's lone hit, a 484- foot blast in the first inning, was the longest homer in the short history of Marlins Park. Hechavarria also scored twice and stole his first base of the season.

"It was pretty good, especially to start the scoring off," Stanton said of his home run. "It was a good punch. This is a new series. Start over, and get it done."

Tom Koehler (1-0) held the Padres to two runs on seven hits over six frames, while Brad Hand tossed three no-hit innings in relief to secure his first career save.

San Diego got two hits each from Jedd Gyorko and Yasmani Grandal, but it hit just 2-for-7 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. Padres starter Eric Stults (0-1) yielded five runs on seven hits in four innings of work.

"I hope we can get some guys going," said Padres manager Bud Black. "Our offense is a little stagnant."

Jeff Baker's one-out single in the bottom of the first put a runner on for Stanton, who sent a no-doubter over the Budweiser logo in deep left field.

Miami padded its lead two innings later, tacking on three more runs for a 5-0 margin. McGehee plated Hechevarria with a sacrifice fly and Saltalamacchia drove in a pair with his double in the gap in left-center.

Three straight singles with one away in the top of the fifth loaded the bases for the Padres, but they failed to put a run across. Tommy Medica pinch-hit for Stults and popped out, and Everth Cabrera grounded out sharply to Garrett Jones at first, who flipped to Koehler covering the bag in time to get the speedy lead-off hitter.

Jones doubled in a run and scored on Marcell Ozuna's grounder, and after five innings the Marlins owned a comfortable 7-0 lead.

San Diego finally got on the board with two runs in the top of the sixth, with Yonder Alonso and Gyorko each driving one in. McGehee's RBI single to center in the eighth resulted in the final tally.

Game Notes

Alonso's sixth inning double was San Diego's lone extra base hit ... Miami went 4-for-9 with RISP ... The Marlins have two more games against the Padres before going on the road for the first time this season to visit Washington.
