Recap: San Francisco vs. Colorado

San Francisco, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Troy Tulowitzki plated the game's only run with a sacrifice fly in the third and six Colorado pitchers combined on a three-hit shutout, as the Rockies recorded a 1-0 win over the San Francisco Giants on Saturday at AT&T Park.

Colorado starter Brett Anderson allowed just one hit and a walk over three scoreless frames before leaving in the bottom of the fourth after injuring his left index finger when he grounded out to end the top of the inning.

Tommy Kahnle (1-0) took over on the mound and struck out two over two blank frames before Matt Belisle and Adam Ottavino each fired a perfect inning to keep the Giants off the board.

Rex Brothers wiggled out of a two-out bases-loaded jam in the eighth before LaTroy Hawkins retired the side in order in the ninth to nail down the victory and his second save of the season.

Charlie Blackmon collected half of Colorado's four hits and scored the only run for the Rockies, who dropped a 6-5 decision in Friday's opener of this three-game series.

San Francisco starter Matt Cain (0-2) took the hard-luck loss after giving up a run on four hits and three walks with eight strikeouts. Pablo Sandoval and Brandon Crawford each clubbed a double for the Giants, who have lost four of their last six games.

"I can't tell you if they're pressing or not. Sometimes that's human nature, if you don't get off to a great start you start looking at numbers," San Francisco manager Bruce Bochy said, referring to his team's offensive struggles. "Hopefully they're not. They're good hitters. They'll come around and their numbers will be up there at the end of the day."

Cain stranded a runner in scoring position in each of the first two frames, but was unable to work out of a jam in the third after issuing a leadoff walk to Blackmon.

Brandon Barnes then legged out an infield single, and after Carlos Gonzalez fanned, Blackmon and Barnes each swiped a bag to put men on second and third for Tulowitzki, who lined out to right to score Blackmon for a 1-0 lead.

"At the time you're not thinking that's the run that's going to win the game, but it was a big one," Rockies manager Walt Weiss said of his team manufacturing the game's only run.

With Anderson unable to start the home half of the fourth, Kahnle came on from the bullpen and was greeted by Sandoval, who scorched a double to left.

Kahnle then walked Buster Posey to put two men on, but got Michael Morse to ground into a double play before fanning Hector Sanchez to end the threat.

The Giants appeared poised to break through in the eighth against Brothers, as Crawford ripped a one-out double before pinch-hitter Brandon Hicks and Hunter Pence each worked a walk around an Angel Pagan lineout to load the bases with two away.

However, Brothers bounced back and got Sandoval swinging at a slider in the dirt for strike three to escape the frame unscathed.

Game Notes

Cain fell to 0-5 in his last seven outings at AT&T Park, with his last win coming on July 20, 2013 ... Anderson was diagnosed with a left index finger contusion ... Colorado went 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position, while San Francisco finished 0-for-4 in such situations ... Pagan went 0-for-4 to end his 10-game hitting streak.

No team left out of the FCS playoffs last season may have had a better argument for an at-large bid than Chattanooga.

Extra Points: Two wrongs don't make a right for Goodell

The fact that we look to Roger Goodell and the NFL to take the lead on any number of social issues should say more about us as a society than the commissioner or the league he lords over.
