Recap: Colorado vs. NY Mets

Denver, CO (SportsNetwork.com) - Dillon Gee held the Rockies scoreless over six-plus innings, leading the New York Mets to a 5-1 victory over Colorado to avoid a four-game sweep.

Gee (3-1) fanned five and walked one while allowing six hits for the Mets, who snapped a three-game skid.

"He goes about his job as professional as anybody," Mets manager Terry Collins commented on Gee. "He uses all his pitches, throws strikes and gets people out."

Juan Lagares had three hits and two runs scored and Daniel Murphy and Chris Young each had a pair of hits and an RBI. David Wright, Curtis Granderson and Lucas Duda drove in a run apiece.

Justin Morneau provided the Rockies' only run with a homer, and in a disappointing season debut, starter Jhoulys Chacin (0-1) allowed four runs on eight hits, while walking five through five frames.

"I wasn't commanding the fastball today," Chacin said. "I wasn't finishing my pitches, especially in the beginning."

Granderson opened the scoring for the Mets with an RBI single in the first. Lagares and Murphy hit back-to-back singles to start the inning and after a flyout by Wright, Granderson knocked in Lagares.

New York added two more in the third with a pair of RBI doubles. Murphy walked with one-out and Wright blasted a double off the wall in left-center to plate him. Then, Granderson was walked and driven in on Young's double down the left field line.

The Mets extended their lead to 4-0 in the fourth. With two outs, Lagares and Murphy hit back-to-back doubles, with the latter bringing a run home.

In the seventh, Duda drove in Young with a double. Young was walked on four pitches with one-out before Duda poked a first pitch fastball into left- center.

Trailing 5-0, Morneau went down and lifted a 2-2 slider just over the left field wall to leadoff the ninth.

Game Notes

Nolan Arenado extended his hitting streak to 24 games. He passed Dante Bichette for sole possession of second place for the Rockies' club record hitting streak. He now trails Michael Cuddyer's 27-game streak ... Lagares extended his hitting streak to 13 games.
