Recap: Milwaukee vs. Arizona

Milwaukee, WI (SportsNetwork.com) - Paul Goldschmidt's two-run homer and Bronson Arroyo's strong start helped send Arizona to a 3-2 victory over Milwaukee in the rubber match of a three-game series.

Eric Chavez picked up three hits for the Diamondbacks, who won the final two of the set and five of seven overall.

The victory moved Arizona manager Kirk Gibson into a tie with Bob Brenly for second place on the D-backs' all-time wins list with 303.

Arroyo (3-2) gave up an unearned run and five hits over 7 1/3 innings and Addison Reed recorded his 10th save, and second in less than 24 hours, despite allowing a run in the ninth.

"Every day is different, but I've had a lot of success here in this ballpark," Arroyo said of his 16th career win against the Brewers. "It might just be coincidence, but you win some games in a certain place and in your mind you start feeling comfortable and so sometimes, if you go out on the mound the first couple of innings and you don't have your best stuff, sometimes your brain can kind of override that with the fact that you've had success in that place."

Lyle Overbay knocked in a run, while Carlos Gomez and Scooter Gennett each collected two hits and a run scored for the Brewers, losers in six of their last eight.

Wily Peralta (4-2) was charged with 11 hits and two runs with three strikeouts over six full frames.

Arroyo hit a one-out single in the eighth, moved up on a wild pitch, then scored Arizona's insurance run when Overbay mishandled Gerardo Parra's grounder for a 3-1 contest.

Gomez grounded into a rally-killing double play against Brad Ziegler with the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the frame.

Reed allowed Gennett to reach with a leadoff double, and he moved to third on a Jonathan Lucroy liner to right before coming in on Overbay's fly to center. Mark Reynolds, though, fanned swinging to preserve the one-run margin.

"We're doing a lot of good things still," Overbay said of his NL Central leaders who strugged offensively without Ryan Braun and Aramis Ramirez in the lineup. "Obviously, we're not scoring a lot of runs, but we're doing pretty good. We just have to get some breaks our way. We're getting great pitching, so it's not that. We just need more timely hitting."

Gomez began the home first by reaching on a bunt single, went to third when Martin Prado booted a Gennett grounder and scored when Lucroy hit into a double play.

The visitors took the lead for good in the third, as Prado led off with a single and Goldschmidt followed with his seventh homer of the season, a two- run shot to left center.
