Recap: Cleveland vs. Minnesota

Cleveland, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Asdrubal Cabrera had four hits, drove in three runs and scored twice to lead the Cleveland Indians over the Minnesota Twins, 9-4, on Thursday in the finale of a four-game set at Progressive Field.

Michael Brantley added three hits and also drove in three runs for the Indians, who took three of four in this set. Both Brantley and Cabrera ended a triple shy of the cycle.

Cleveland starter Justin Masterson (2-1) picked up the win, allowing four runs -- two earned -- on four hits in 6 1/3 innings. The right-hander walked four and struck out seven, helping the Indians go 5-2 during a seven-game homestand.

"We had a chance to almost sweep the entire (homestand) and that's nice to see," said Masterson.

Josmil Pinto had two hits and Chris Colabello drove in a pair for the Twins, who have dropped three in a row after taking the series opener.

Leading 5-4, the Tribe pulled away in the home half of the seventh inning. David Murphy and Cabrera started the inning with consecutive doubles to make it a 6-4 game. Cabrera then scored on a Ryan Raburn base hit and Lonnie Chisenhall later scored on a Michael Bourn sacrifice fly for an 8-4 cushion.

Cabrera drove in another run in the eighth with his second double of the contest for a five-run advantage. He ended up on third when the throw went home, prompting the crowd to think he hit for the cycle. However, the official scorer gave him a double, moving to third on the throw home.

Murphy finished 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.

Cleveland got the scoring started off Minnesota starter Kevin Correia in the first inning when Murphy doubled home Brantley. However, the Tribe wasted an opportunity at more runs as Carlos Santana was thrown out at the plate on the play for the final out of the inning.

Cabrera made it a 2-0 game in the second with a solo homer and Brantley doubled up the lead in the fifth with a two-run homer.

The Twins got two runs back in the sixth. With two on and two outs, Colabello's infield single scored a pair of runs. Cabrera had trouble bare handing the slow roller at shortstop, allowing Danny Santana to score from third and Brian Dozier, who was hustling from second, to come across. Both runs were unearned as Santana reached to lead off the inning thanks to a fielding error by Masterson.

Cleveland got a run back in the home half of the inning when Chisenhall scored on a Brantley bases-loaded force out for a 5-2 edge.

However, the Twins got back into the game with a two-run seventh inning. Pinto walked and Chris Herrmann followed with a base hit. Santana then doubled home a run before Dozier grounded out to short, which turned into the end of the day for Masterson.

Reliever Scott Atchison came on and induced a Eduardo Escobar ground out that scored Herrmann, but got out of the jam to preserve the lead when Trevor Plouffe lined out to right to end the inning.

Correia (1-4) was charged with four runs on eight hits, walking four and striking out five in 4 1/3 innings. The right-hander has now lost three of his last four starts, allowing 15 runs in 12 2/3 innings in those setbacks.

"I don't feel like I struggled really until the last inning," said Correia. "I threw a few too many pitches early. It's kind of the first warm day we've had. You get upwards of 90 pitches in the fifth inning, it'll take a toll on you."
