Recap: Los Angeles vs. San Francisco

Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Brandon Crawford crushed a two-run homer to back eight solid innings from Madison Bumgarner and the San Francisco Giants topped the Los Angeles Dodgers 3-1 in the second of a four-game set.

Bumgarner (4-3) struck out eight and walked one as the Giants improved to 12-3 in their last 15 games.

The win, San Francisco's seventh in its last eight games at Dodger Stadium, was tempered a bit by the news that first baseman Brandon Belt suffered a broken left thumb when he was hit by a pitch thrown by Los Angeles starter Paul Maholm in the top of the second inning.

"It's a tough thing to go through," Bumgarner said of Belt. "Hopefully we can fight through it until he is back."

Maholm (1-3) gave up the home run to Crawford and two other hits while walking four in 5 2/3 innings.

"We haven't been able to do a lot with Bumgarner," said Dodgers manager Don Mattingly. "We haven't done a whole lot with anybody lately."

Crawford's blast to right-center field followed a one-out walk to Brandon Hicks in the fifth.

The Giants extended their lead to 3-0 with a two-out run in the sixth. Hunter Pence led off with a walk, advanced on a groundout, swiped third and scored on Joaquin Arias' infield single.

Yasiel Puig homered to straightaway center in the bottom of the inning, one of four hits allowed by Bumgarner, who took exception to Puig's bat flip and trot.

Sergio Romo earned his 12th save with a 1-2-3 ninth.

Game Notes

Bumgarner improved to 10-4 lifetime against the Dodgers ... Puig extended his hitting streak to nine games, matching a career high.

There was quite a bit of hitting on the field at Milan Puskar Stadium last weekend, but almost as much action took place in the streets just outside in the hours following West Virginia's upset of visiting Baylor.
