Recap: Milwaukee vs. Pittsburgh

Milwaukee, WI (SportsNetwork.com) - Khris Davis' game-winning two-run single in the bottom of the ninth inning lifted the Milwaukee Brewers to a 4-3 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates in the rubber match of a three-game set on Thursday.

Ryan Braun led off the ninth with a single before Mark Melancon (1-2) walked Jonathan Lucroy and Mark Reynolds to load the bases with none away. Davis stepped up next and his broken-bat flare into shallow center plated Braun and Lucroy.

"I was just looking around and all of a sudden my teammates were running at me," Davis said of the hit.

Rob Wooten (1-1) fired 1 1/3 scoreless innings to notch the win.

Rickie Weeks smacked his first homer since July. His solo shot highlighted his 3-for-4 day at the plate. Martin Maldonado also belted a solo blast for Milwaukee, which has won four of its last five games.

Tony Sanchez cracked a two-run homer and Gaby Sanchez added a solo shot for the Pirates, who have dropped three of their last four games on the heels of a four-game winning streak.

"He's a human being and just didn't have his best stuff today. The walks are uncharacteristic," Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said of Melancon.

Weeks' longball into the seats in right opened the scoring in the third before Tony Sanchez's two-run shot in the fifth gave Pittsburgh a 2-1 edge.

Maldonado's leadoff homer in the fifth was answered by Gaby Sanchez's big fly in the sixth for a 3-2 Pittsburgh edge.

Reynolds, who made a nice charging play on a slow roller by Jordy Mercer to end the fourth, again showcased his leather in the seventh. He backhanded a one-hop rocket to begin a 5-4-3 double play with runners on first and second with no outs. Mercer struck out to end the threat.

Game Notes

Brewers starter Yovani Gallardo fanned six and allowed three runs on five hits and two walks over 6 1/3 frames in a no-decision ... Pittsburgh was 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.

Dorm Report: Rooting for the lesser of two evils

I really do try my best not to hate anyone, seeing as how that word can be thrown around rather easily, which is why it was so tough watching the Florida State-Louisville game on Thursday night.
