Recap: LA Angels vs. Kansas City

Anaheim, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Mike Trout and Chris Iannetta each cracked solo home runs to help the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim to a 6-1 win over the Kansas City Royals in the opener of a three-game set.

C.J. Cron, Erick Aybar, Grant Green and Collin Cowgill all drove in a run for the Angels, who have won three straight.

Angels starter C.J. Wilson (6-3) continued his recent home dominance, winning his fourth straight decision at Angel Stadium after 6 1/3 innings of one-run ball, allowing four hits and four walks with three strikeouts.

"Give them credit for working my pitch count up," said Wilson. "I was able to use the changeup to get guys out. We've won a lot of games coming from behind and that's the mark of a good team."

Danny Duffy (2-4) was charged with the loss after surrendering five runs on nine hits over six innings.

Norichika Aoki went 3-for-4 with a run scored and Alex Gordon had the lone RBI for the Royals, who have lost three of four.

"Wilson threw a good game," Royals manager Ned Yost said. "He worked both sides of the plate. You're not going to score many runs when you only have five hits on the night. It's not going well offensively right now."

Aoki singled to lead off the game, stole second with two outs and moved over to third on a passed ball from Iannetta.

Billy Butler walked and Gordon's RBI single scored Aoki to give the Royals an early 1-0 lead.

Iannetta launched his fourth homer of the season into left-center that knotted the game with one out in the second. Cowgill added an RBI single later in the frame that scored Aybar from second.

Trout hammered a 2-2 changeup over the wall in left-center to lead off the third and increase the cushion to 3-1.

Trout showed why he is one of the elite five-tool players in the game when he pegged Aoki out at third to end the fifth. With one out, Eric Hosmer lifted a fly to center where Trout settled under it and rifled the ball to third on a frozen rope to nail Aoki at the bag.

LA added on in the sixth with a two-run frame courtesy of an RBI single from Aybar and a run-scoring double from Green.

With runners on first and second and one out in the seventh, David Freese poked a deep fly out to center where Lorenzo Cain leaped up and robbed the potential three-run homer to keep it a four-run game.

Cron delivered in the next at-bat, however, as he lifted a soft line drive out to center that plated Howie Kendrick to account for the final margin.

Game Notes

LA's Sean Burnett pitched one-third of an inning in his first appearance on the hill since last May due to an elbow injury ... Wilson entered the game 3-0 with a 1.69 ERA over his last four starts at home ... Duffy hadn't allowed a homer over nine games before Iannetta's in the second.
