Recap: Seattle vs. Houston

Seattle, WA (SportsNetwork.com) - Felix Hernandez struck out nine over eight innings as the Seattle Mariners beat the Houston Astros, 6-1, in the second test of a four-game series.

Hernandez (6-1) allowed one run on five hits for the Mariners, who have won four of five. The right-hander picked up his third straight win.

Willie Bloomquist hit a two-run homer and ended with three RBI for Seattle. Kyle Seager also knocked in three runs.

"I tell guys all the time, check the book the guy is pretty good at what he does," Mariners manager Lloyd McClendon said of Bloomquist. "He's a professional hitter and he gives you good at-bats."

Jose Altuve went 3-for-4 with an RBI for the Astros, who have lost four in a row.

"(Altuve) continues to play the best baseball of his life," Astros manager Bo Porter said. "It's a credit to the effort and commitment he made this offseason."

Houston starter Rudy Owens (0-1) gave up five runs on nine hits over 5 2/3 innings in his big league debut. The left-hander took the place of Brad Peacock, who was scratched with right forearm soreness.

The Mariners jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first. With two outs, Robinson Cano hit a single to right-center field and Justin Smoak followed with a double off the wall in left. Seager knocked in both runs with a single to center.

Houston got one run back in the third. Marwin Gonzalez led off with a walk, advanced to second on Jonathan Villar's groundout, moved to third on a wild pitch and crossed the plate on Altuve's single to left-center field.

Seattle tacked on another run in the fourth. Cole Gillespie walked, moved to third on Mike Zunino's single and scored on Bloomquist's sacrifice fly.

Bloomquist's two-run homer in the sixth made it a 5-1 contest. Zunino hit a one-out double off the top of the wall in right-center field and crossed the plate on Bloomquist's blast inside the left-field foul pole. It was Bloomquist's first homer since 2011.

Seager's RBI single in the seventh made it a five-run game.

Altuve lined a single off Hernandez's left calf in the eighth. Hernandez stayed in and completed the inning.
