Recap: NY Mets vs. Arizona

Flushing, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Martin Prado hit a pair of RBI singles and the Arizona Diamondbacks edged the New York Mets, 3-2, in the opener of a three-game set.

Josh Collmenter (3-2) allowed two runs on six hits and a walk over six frames for Arizona, which snapped a three-game slide. Addison Reed worked a 1-2-3 ninth to notch his 13th save of the year.

"I went out there and threw the ball down in the zone," Collmenter said. "I had a lot of quick outs later on and that helped out after blowing through so many pitches in the first inning."

David Wright smacked a solo homer among his three hits for the Mets, who have dropped seven of their last nine games. Zack Wheeler (1-5) surrendered three runs -- two earned -- on six hits and a walk while striking out seven over 6 2/3 innings to garner the loss.

"I could have kept going, if it was not for the pitch count or whatever. I felt strong all the way through," Wheeler said.

The D-backs raced out to a 3-0 lead after plating a pair in the second and another in the third.

Miguel Montero led off the second with a walk and Aaron Hill followed with a double into left to put runners on second and third. Prado then lined a base hit into right to bring home Montero and Hill scored when Cody Ross bounced a single up the middle to make it 2-0.

Paul Goldschmidt reached base with one away in the third after Wilmer Flores committed a throwing error on his roller to shortstop. After Montero struck out, Hill was hit by a pitch and Prado's base hit into left-center allowed Goldschmidt to come around and extend the margin to 3-0.

The Mets got a run back in the home half and added another in the fifth, but never seriously threatened after that until the eighth.

Consecutive one-out singles by Daniel Murphy and Wright in the third preceded Curtis Granderson's one-hop double into right-center, which brought home Murphy.

Wright hooked a two-out solo shot around the left field foul pole in the fifth to trim the deficit to a run.

New York put runners on first and second with one away in the eighth against Brad Ziegler, but Lucas Duda and Flores both flied out to left to end the threat.
