Recap: San Francisco vs. Minnesota

San Francisco, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Michael Morse knocked in four runs and Madison Bumgarner turned in a gem on the mound as the San Francisco Giants finished off a three-game sweep of the Minnesota Twins with an 8-1 rout at AT&T Park.

Morse recorded a career-high three doubles to lead San Francisco's offensive barrage, while Bumgarner (6-3) racked up 10 strikeouts and yielded a mere three hits over seven innings of one-run ball to post his fourth consecutive winning decision.

Hunter Pence also had three hits, including a solo homer, and Gregor Blanco went 3-for-4 with a run scored in the Giants' seventh straight interleague win dating back to last season.

"We play together. On paper we may not be the best team, but I'd put us against anybody," Bumgarner said.

San Francisco battered Ricky Nolasco (2-5) for seven runs and nine hits before the Twins starter was lifted after just 4 2/3 innings.

Danny Santana finished with two of Minnesota's four hits.

"We'll go home and get right back after it against the Rangers," Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said.

The Giants came swinging right out of the gate, with Blanco, Buster Posey and Pablo Sandoval all delivering first-inning singles to produce the game's initial run and Morse quickly making it 2-0 with a sacrifice fly that scored Posey.

Minnesota closed the gap in the third, which Eduardo Escobar and Santana began with back-to-back singles to set up Brian Dozier's sac fly, but never threatened again as San Francisco slowly pulled away.

Pence's sixth homer of the season extended the lead to 3-1 after three innings and Morse led off the fourth with a double prior to being brought in on a groundout and Brandon Crawford's sac fly.

The Giants then broke it open in the fifth, with Nolasco getting in danger by issuing a leadoff walk to Bumgarner that preceded singles by Blanco and Pence that loaded the bases.

Nolasco was able to strike Posey out looking and get Sandoval to pop up to short left field, but Morse's hard grounder down the third-base line got past a diving Trevor Plouffe and rolled to the wall to clear the sacks and stake San Francisco to a 7-1 advantage.

Morse's third double followed a Sandoval single in the eighth and came in front of Tyler Colvin's groundout that brought in the Giants' final run.

Johnson headlines FCS players of the week

In 2013, the Montana State Bobcats made a bit of an offensive switch, going from a pass-heavy system to a more run- integrated style of play. The reason wasn't because the team was unstable at quarterback, but rather due to the fact the Bobcats were loaded at the running back position.
