Recap: Minnesota vs. Texas

Minneapolis, MN (SportsNetwork.com) - Luis Sardinas drove in the lone run of the game to guide the Texas Rangers to a 1-0 victory over the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday.

Leonys Martin was 2-for-4 and scored on Sardinas' single in the seventh inning for the Rangers, who have won six of their last eight games, including two of the first three in this four-game series.

Rangers reliever Shawn Tolleson (1-1) pitched 1 2/3 innings, allowing just one hit and a walk to earn the win.

Brian Dozier and Eduardo Nunez had the only extra-base hits for the Twins, who have lost five of their last six.

Jared Burton (1-2) was tagged for one run on two hits to absorb the loss.

Martin had a one-out bunt single in the seventh then stole second base. The Twins challenged the play but the call on the field was upheld. Sardinas' RBI single off the end of his bat dropped in left field to end the scoreless tie.

Minnesota's best chances to score came early in the game.

The Twins wasted a leadoff double from Dozier in the first, leaving him stranded on third.

Minnesota had runners on second and third with one out in the second. Eduardo Escobar hit one back to Texas starter Joe Saunders, who caught Josh Willingham in a run down between home and third. After allowing a two-out walk to load the bases, Saunders escaped unscathed by getting Dozier to fly out.

"We gave up one and unfortunately we had chances," Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said. "We had chances to score early and they made enough pitches. It was a cat-and-mouse (game) after that. They needed a big hit and they got one that flipped into the outfield and there you have it. We hit some right on the nose at some people, but that's way those games go."

After suffering his first blown save of the season on Tuesday, Joakim Soria threw a 1-2-3 with two strikeouts to earn his ninth save of the year.
