Recap: Arizona vs. San Diego

Phoenix, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) - Paul Goldschmidt and Martin Prado each homered and knocked in three runs as the Arizona Diamondbacks took down the San Diego Padres, 12-6, thanks to an eight-run first inning.

Ender Inciarte and A.J. Pollock had two RBI apiece for the Diamondbacks, who won two of the three games in this series. Chris Owings went 4-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.

Arizona starter Chase Anderson (3-0) allowed four runs -- one earned -- on eight hits over five innings. He became the first D-backs rookie to win his first three starts.

The Diamondbacks scored 18 runs for him in his previous start.

"Golly, I mean, shoot," Anderson said. "What was it 18 runs the last time when we played against the Dodgers, 12 today? That's a pitcher's dream right there."

Tommy Medica finished a single shy of becoming the first Padre to hit for the cycle. He went 3-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored.

San Diego starter Tim Stauffer (2-1) didn't make it out of the first inning. The right-hander gave up seven runs on six hits while recording just one out. Donn Roach allowed three runs on six hits with four strikeouts over four innings of relief.

The Diamondbacks exploded in their first turn at the plate. Pollock and Gerardo Parra got things started with back-to-back singles. Goldschmidt's RBI double to right preceded a Miguel Montero walk which filled the sacks. Prado added an RBI single to right before Aaron Hill struck out swinging. Owings' RBI hit and Inciarte's two-run single chased Stauffer from the game at 5-0.

Roach came in from the bullpen and gave up a two-run double to Pollock. Parra followed with a ground-rule double to left that scored Pollock, before Goldschmidt grounded out to finally end the inning.

The quick offensive outburst was the most runs the D-backs have scored in the first inning in franchise history.

Prado's two-run homer in the second made it 10-0.

San Diego finally got on the board in the fourth. Medica tripled to right- center field and raced home when Jedd Gyorko grounded out.

The Padres got three more runs back in the fifth. Everth Cabrera singled to center, then moved to second when Prado failed to control Seth Smith's grounder. Yonder Alonso singled in a run before Medica's two-run double cut the gap to 10-4.

Goldschmidt hit a two-run homer in the seventh.

Medica led off the eighth with a homer. The Padres got another run later in the frame when pinch-hitter Carlos Quentin was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
