Recap: Toronto vs. Kansas City

Toronto, ON (SportsNetwork.com) - Lorenzo Cain drove in four runs for the Kansas City Royals, who defeated the Toronto Blue Jays, 6-1, in the second installment of a four-game set.

Cain finished 3-for-4 with a homer, Billy Butler supplied three hits with three runs and Alex Gordon knocked in two and scored twice as Kansas City won its second straight game.

"This is more of the offense that we envisioned coming out of spring training," Royals manager Ned Yost said.

Jason Vargas (5-2) tossed six solid innings, striking out seven and surrendering just one run on seven hits. The left-hander has struck out six or more batters in a league-leading five straight games.

"Vargas keeps you off-balance," Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said of Vargas. "If you're sitting on a pitch, you don't get it."

Jose Bautista homered and Dioner Navarro contributed two hits. Jose Reyes tripled for the Blue Jays, who dropped their second consecutive game after a nine-game winning streak.

J.A. Happ (4-2), who entered the game with wins in his last three starts. was tagged with the loss after giving up six runs on nine hits with two walks in 7 2/3 frames.

Butler singled and Gordon walked to start the second. Butler moved to third on Salvador Perez's fly out and scored on Cain's single to right, giving the Royals an early lead.

After Butler got aboard with a single to open the fourth, Gordon smacked a fastball into the seats in right for a 3-0 lead.

Bautista cranked a solo shot to right-center for his 14th homer of the season, making it a 3-1 game with two outs in the fifth.

The Royals tacked on another run in the sixth as Gordon scored his second run of the night. He walked with one out, stole second base, and came home on Cain's two-out single to center.

Cain's two-run blast with two outs in the eighth chased Happ out of the game and staked the Royals to a 6-1 advantage.

Game Notes

The Royals have won four of five games against the Blue Jays this season ... Gordon extended his hitting streak to eight games ... Toronto selected the contract of pitcher Bobby Korecky, who pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings in relief, from Triple-A Buffalo and optioned pitcher Rob Rasmussen to Buffalo prior to the game ... The Blue Jays went 0-for-10 with runners in scoring position and stranded 14 runners on base.
