Recap: Philadelphia vs. NY Mets

Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - Lucas Duda stroked a two-run homer in the top of the 11th inning to lift the New York Mets to a 4-3 win over the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday in the third straight extra-inning game between the NL East rivals.

After retiring the first two batters he's faced this season, Phillippe Aumont (0-1) walked Travis d'Arnaud in the 11th. Duda then smacked a second-pitch sinker over the center-field wall.

Josh Edgin (1-0) pitched a clean 10th inning to earn his first win of the season. Jenrry Mejia allowed a Marlon Byrd solo homer in the bottom of the 11th, but was able to record the next two outs to secure his sixth save of the year.

Chris Young and Curtis Granderson each drove in a run for the Mets, who have won five of their last six, including three of the first four games of this five-game series.

"Hopefully we can get another one (Monday) and continue rolling," Duda said.

Ryan Howard had a two-run home run for the Phillies, who have lost three of their last four.

After the previous two games of this series went into 14 innings with each team taking a game, both clubs had opportunities to break the 2-2 tie in the seventh.

The Mets had runners on first and second with one out, but Cole Hamels got Eric Campbell swinging and sat down Young on his 125th pitch of the day to escape unscathed.

Cesar Hernandez was on second with one out when Domonic Brown singled to move Hernandez to third, but Brown was caught between first and second to make the second out. Ben Revere grounded out to strand Hernandez at third.

"Our best chance came right there in the seventh, but Brown wasn't looking at third and overran the bag," said Phillies manager Ryne Sandberg.

David Wright doubled to begin the fourth and Campbell beat out an infield single to third to put runners on the corners with no outs. Young's sac fly in foul territory was far enough down the third base line to score Wright.

Howard answered in the home half when he crushed a two-run homer to center field to put the Phillies ahead 2-1. Carlos Ruiz doubled with one-out to reach base.

A Jimmy Rollins' throwing error to first put Young on at first and advanced Campbell, who reached on a double, to third. Granderson lined a sac fly to left to tie the game at 2-2 in the sixth.

Game Notes

Mets starter Jonathon Niese yielded just two runs on eight hits over eight innings ... Hamels allowed just two runs -- one earned -- on six hits and four walks in seven innings ... Hamels passed Curt Schilling (1,554) for fourth on the Phillies all-time list for strikeouts with his strikeout against Campbell in the first inning ... Prior to Sunday's game, the Phillies placed pitcher Jeff Manship on the 15-day disabled list with a right quad strain and optioned outfielder/first baseman Darin Ruf to Triple-A Lehigh Valley. To take their places on the 25-man roster, the Phillies recalled Aumont and purchased the contract of pitcher Cesar Jimenez from Lehigh Valley.

2014-15 San Jose Sharks Preview

In another move that bucks tradition, the Sharks completely revamped their on- ice leadership structure not by selecting new players to wear the precious singular letters on their uniforms, but by stripping the captaincy from Joe Thornton, removing the alternate tag from Patrick Marleau and leaving the other "A" vacant after Dan Boyle signed as a free agent with the Rangers.
