Recap: San Francisco vs. Washington

San Francisco, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Jayson Werth smacked a solo homer among his three RBI and scored a pair of runs as the Washington Nationals defeated the San Francisco Giants, 6-2, in the third installment of a four- game set.

Tanner Roark (5-4) allowed two runs on seven hits over six-plus innings for the Nationals, who have won eight of their last nine games. Adam LaRoche had a two-run single in the triumph.

Matt Cain (1-4) surrendered four runs on three hits and five walks over five frames for San Francisco, which has dropped the first three games of this series on the heels of its five-game winning streak.

"We've hit a bump here in the road and you're going to have that," Giants manager Bruce Bochy said.

The Nationals opened the scoring with three runs in the first and hung on from there.

Denard Span, Anthony Rendon and Werth all walked to begin the game and load the bases before Adam LaRoche squirted a grounder through the hole on the right side to bring home Span and Rendon. Ryan Zimmerman then bounced one back to Cain, which allowed Werth to score.

"We got some big hits in the first inning there to kind of set the tone for the game," Werth said. "It was a good way to start the game for us and we were able to tack on some runs."

San Francisco got on the board in the fourth when Buster Posey led off with a single and scored two batters later when Brandon Crawford tripled into the gap in left center.

Washington, though, got the run back in the fifth when Werth smacked a one-out solo shot into the seats in left to make it 4-1.

Pablo Sandoval's two-out RBI single in the seventh cut the gap to 4-2, but Werth's two-out, two-run, bases-loaded roller back up the box in the ninth increased the margin to 6-2.

Game Notes

Washington was 2-for-11 with runners in scoring position, while the Giants finished 1-for-5 with RISP ... Werth's homer was his sixth of the season.
