Recap: Detroit vs. Minnesota

Detroit, MI (SportsNetwork.com) - Eugenio Suarez finished a single shy of the cycle as the Detroit Tigers grabbed a 12-9 victory over the Minnesota Twins in the second of a three-game set on Saturday.

Suarez scored three times and drove in two, Ian Kinsler went 3-for-5 with three RBI and a run scored, while Victor Martinez added a two-run home run for the Tigers, who had lost four of five coming in.

"It's something that we do really good here. Yesterday is over and we came to play baseball today," said Martinez. "Today is over, turn the page and come back tomorrow ready to play another game."

Anibal Sanchez (3-2) went 6 1/3 innings as he gave up three runs on four hits with two walks and six strikeouts.

Danny Santana went 2-for-5 with three RBI, Eduardo Nunez was 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored, and Eric Fryer finished the game 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored for the Twins, who had a three-game winning streak snapped.

Samuel Deduno (2-5) was beat up for seven runs on seven hits and a pair of walks in just 2 2/3 frames.

"I couldn't stop the Tigers' offense today," said Deduno. "They hit pretty good today. I didn't make good pitches."

Detroit left runners on first and third in the first inning, and the Twins took a 1-0 lead in the second on Trevor Plouffe's sacrifice fly, but Detroit went on top in the third.

Suarez homered to start the frame and Kinsler followed with a walk. Kinsler then stole second and came home on a Torii Hunter double. Hunter scored when Miguel Cabrera singled, then Martinez homered.

The next two batters recorded outs, but Nick Castellanos singled and Alex Avila walked to bring on Anthony Swarzak, who gave up a run-scoring double to Suarez and an RBI single to Kinsler for a 7-1 lead.

Cabrera doubled with one out in the fourth, and came home on a J.D. Martinez single for an 8-1 lead.

An RBI double from Kinsler and sac fly by Hunter in the fifth extended the margin to 10-1.

A Nick Castellanos RBI single in the sixth made it a 10-run lead, but the Twins got three back in the seventh.

Nunez tripled in a run and scored on a passed ball. Fryer then singled and took third as Hunter misplayed it in right, and later came home on a Santana fielder's choice to make it an 11-4 game.

Suarez tripled to start the seventh and came home on a Kinsler single for a 12-4 contest.

An RBI single from Fryer and a two-run basehit from Santana in the eighth made it a five-run game, and Brian Dozier added a two-run home run in the ninth, but it was with two outs and Fryer struck out to end the game.
