Recap: Miami vs. Chicago Cubs

Miami, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Nate Schierholtz hit a three-run homer to cap a four-run sixth inning, and Chicago topped Miami, 6-1, in Wednesday's rubber match of a three-game series.

Starlin Castro finished 3-for-5 with two doubles, two RBI and two runs scored for the Cubs, who have won four of six overall. Anthony Rizzo also collected three hits and Darwin Barney drove in a run.

Jake Arrieta (3-1) yielded five hits and one run with a career-high 11 strikeouts over seven strong innings.

"He was commanding his fastball better, and his breaking ball is starting to get some bite and location," Cubs skipper Rich Renteria said. "He's got great stuff, and adding onto that, he's becoming very composed."

Giancarlo Stanton homered but left with a bruised left wrist in the sixth inning for the Marlins, who have dropped five of seven.

"We need this guy for the long haul," Marlins manager Mike Redmond said. "He wanted to stay in, but I'm thinking about tomorrow and the next day."

New father Nathan Eovaldi (4-3) was tagged in the loss for five runs on nine hits in six-plus frames.

Rizzo reached in the sixth with a one-out single and scored on Castro's double to the wall in right center to put the visitors ahead by a 2-1 score. Ryan Sweeney's single placed runners on the corners and Schierholtz reached the facing of the upper deck in right for a 5-1 Cubs' edge.

Chicago tacked on another run in the eighth. Castro led off with an infield hit, Sweeney singled, a John Baker fielder's choice grounder left runners on the corners and a single to deep short from Barney plated Castro.

"I like batting fourth because there are usually runners on base," Castro said. "If they keep moving me around, it breaks my concentration."

Arrieta retired the final six batters faced, then Pedro Strop worked around a leadoff walk to Rafael Furcal in the home eighth by sending down the next three batters.

James Russell capped the victory on a 1-2-3 ninth.

In the first, Chris Coghlan doubled with one down and scored on a two-out double from Castro, and Stanton equalized for the hosts with his NL-best 20th homer of the season.
