Recap: LA Angels vs. Minnesota

Anaheim, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Garrett Richards has been one of the most dominant pitchers in the majors this month, and Wednesday's meeting with Minnesota was no different.

Richards went 7 1/3 innings, winning his fourth straight decision and guiding the Los Angeles Angels to a 6-2 win over the Twins.

Richards (8-2) was charged with two runs on four hits -- his fifth consecutive start this month allowing exactly four hits -- with five strikeouts for the Angels, who extended their season-long win streak to five games.

"I went at them early with the fastball, then started to mix things up," Richards said. "I did a lot of things that I wasn't happy with, but I kept us in the game. We're playing good ball right now."

Richards has allowed just four runs in 34 1/3 innings in June.

Kole Calhoun drove in two runs, while Albert Pujols, Erick Aybar and C.J. Cron all collected a pair of hits in the win.

Oswaldo Arcia hit a solo blast in the second inning for Minnesota, which saw starter Yohan Pino (0-1) get roughed up for five runs in just three innings on the hill.

"It was a tough night offensively for us," said Twins manager Ron Gardenhire. "Richards threw the ball very well."

LA trailed 1-0 heading into the bottom of the second inning but responded by putting up a three-spot to go in front. Aybar led off the frame with a double to right-center and moved to third on Cron's single two batters later. Grant Green tied the score with a sac fly to right.

Chris Iannetta then walked and Calhoun blasted a two-bagger to right, plating both runners.

Pino allowed another two runs in the third inning, with Aybar delivering a sacrifice fly to center and Howie Kendrick singling home Josh Hamilton.

Richards settled down after serving up Arcia's early home run and despite walking five batters, kept Minnesota off the scoreboard again until the eighth inning.

Joe Mauer singled with one away and Josh Willingham walked, as Kevin Jepsen was brought on to replace Richards. Kendrys Morales greeted him with an RBI single to center, but Arcia struck out swinging and Pujols made an impressive pick at first base on Eduardo Escobar's sharply hit grounder to end the inning.

Cron's RBI base knock off Jared Burton in the bottom of the eighth made it 6-2.

Game Notes

Aybar stole two bases and scored twice ... The Angels went 4-for-7 with runners in scoring position ... Minnesota shortstop Danny Santana left in the third inning with a leg injury ... The Twins have lost seven straight on the road ... Anthony Swarzak faced the minimum in three innings of relief for the Twins.
