Recap: Milwaukee vs. Washington

Milwaukee, WI (SportsNetwork.com) - Scooter Gennett finished 2-for-5 with a grand slam and five RBI as Milwaukee bested Washington, 9-2, in Wednesday's finale of a three-game series.

Khris Davis added a solo homer and two-run single for the Brewers, who avoided a sweep and won for the seventh time in 10 overall. Carlos Gomez added three hits, an RBI and scored once for the victorious hosts.

Marco Estrada (7-4) departed after 6 1/3 innings having given up just two runs and as many hits with four walks and four strikeouts.

"This was a real important outing for (Estrada). It's important for him to get back into that mode and pitch the way we know he can," said Brewers manager Ron Roenicke.

Nate McLouth and Ian Desmond drove in a run each for the Nationals, whose four-game win streak came to an end.

Stephen Strasburg (6-6) was touched for eight hits and seven runs over 4 2/3 frames in the loss.

"Guys played great so it kind of stings a little bit more," Strasburg admitted of his poor outing. "I wanted to go out there and do my job and get the sweep. Just wasn't able to get it done."

Milwaukee moved ahead for good in the home second. Mark Reynolds singled, Elian Herrera doubled and Martin Maldonado walked to set up Gennett's slam to right center, which made it 4-1.

Desmond's two-out double in the fourth was countered in the home half by Davis' 14th homer of the season. Strasburg loaded the bases on a triple and two walks, which preceded a two-run single from Davis that stretched the hosts' edge to 7-2 in the fifth.

"When you come back to score four and then add a couple the next inning, it gives the offense confidence to know you're on a roll again," Roenicke added.

The Brewers tacked on two more in the sixth against Taylor Hill with RBI singles from Gennett and Gomez for a seven-run spread.

Earlier, the Nats appeared primed to sweep the set. Adam LaRoche and Anthony Rendon kicked off the second with consecutive walks, LaRoche went to third on a Desmond fielder's choice grounder and scored when Brewers first baseman Lyle Overbay fielded a McLouth grounder but threw late to home.

Dorm Report: West Virginia goes wild, not so wonderful

There was quite a bit of hitting on the field at Milan Puskar Stadium last weekend, but almost as much action took place in the streets just outside in the hours following West Virginia's upset of visiting Baylor.
