Recap: Toronto vs. Chicago WSox

Toronto, ON ( - Jose Abreu hit two solo homers, tying Edwin Encarnacion for the major-league lead, and the Chicago White Sox held on to beat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 on Friday night.

Abreu opened the scoring in the fifth inning with his 24th homer of the season and hit his 25th in the seventh to spark a three-run rally that gave the White Sox a 5-2 lead against knuckleballer R.A. Dickey.

In between, Encarnacion went back-to-back with Dioner Navarro in the sixth -- reaching 25 homers for the season -- and the Blue Jays rallied for two runs in the ninth inning before Jake Petricka was able to close the door.

Dayan Viciedo and Alexei Ramirez also hit solo homers for the White Sox, who bounced back from a 7-0 loss in the opener of the four-game series on Thursday to snap a two-game losing streak. It was their fourth win in 15 games.

Colby Rasmus started the ninth with a pinch-hit homer off Ronald Belisario to get the Blue Jays within 5-3.

Munenori Kawasaki and Anthony Gose both hit one-out singles and pinch-hitter Adam Lind -- facing Eric Surkamp after a pitching change -- reached on Conor Gillaspie's error at third to load the bases.

Jose Reyes beat out a double play ball at first base, knocking in a run and keeping the rally alive until Petricka got Melky Cabrera on a grounder to second to end the game and secure his second save.

"We made a run late, that's all you ask for," Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said.

John Danks (7-6) gave up Encarnacion and Navarro's homers but earned the win in six innings. He allowed five hits, no walks and struck out two.

"I'm happy to get a win," Danks said. "Didn't do myself any favors with the two homers in the sixth."

Dickey (6-7) remained winless in his last four starts despite striking out nine in six-plus innings, including the 1,000th strikeout of his career.

Abreu drove a Dickey fastball over the center field wall and just out of the reach of a leaping Gose leading off the seventh inning, giving Chicago a 3-2 lead.

Adam Dunn then drew a walk and Ramirez golfed a low knuckleball off the left- field foul netting to make it 5-2.

Dickey had faced the minimum through four innings, striking out six. The only baserunner reached on an error and was erased on a double play.

But Abreu hammered a 3-2 pitch into the left-field seats leading off the fifth for Chicago's first hit and Viciedo slapped a one-out fastball the other way for a solo blast to right field to make it 2-0.

Encarnacion teed off on a 3-2 fastball in the sixth and Navarro tied the game five pitches later.

Game Notes

Abreu and Encarnacion have one more homer than Baltimore's Nelson Cruz ... Dickey recorded his 1,000th career strikeout in the third inning, when he struck out the side. Tyler Flowers was the victim ... A fire alarm went off in the top of the second inning, delaying the game as strobe lights flashed above center field, distracting Chicago's Ramirez at the plate ... The White Sox are 2-7 on an 11-game road trip.

Goldrich, Edmonds headline FCS players of week

It's a big step going from a time share to complete ownership, but it seems like New Hampshire quarterback Sean Goldrich has made the transition.

The Inside Line: Keselowski peaking at right time

After winning the regular season finale at Richmond and then the opening race of the Chase for the Sprint Cup at Chicagoland, Brad Keselowski is proving he's the championship favorite.

Top Shelf: Jackets, Johansen still far apart

Considering the young franchise is coming off the first playoff appearance in team history, the Columbus Blue Jackets should be eager to get the 2014-15 season underway.
