Recap: San Diego vs. Arizona

San Diego, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Miguel Montero's two-run homer in the sixth inning broke a tie and helped the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 3-1 win over the San Diego Padres in the second of three from Petco Park.

Paul Goldschmidt walked to begin the sixth and moved up to second on Martin Prado's groundout. Montero then pulled a 1-2 changeup from Padres starter Eric Stults (2-11) down the line into the porch in right that gave the D-backs the lead.

"He's found a real comfort zone at the plate," Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson said of Montero.

Josh Collmenter (7-4) grabbed the win after tossing 5 1/3 innings of one-run ball.

Arizona has taken the first two in the series and sent San Diego to its third straight defeat.

Stults continued to struggle, although just one swing of the bat proved to be the difference on Saturday.

"One bad pitch," said Padres manager Bud Black of Stults. "He tried to throw a changeup down and away. He just missed his spot and Montero is a pretty good low-ball hitter."

The southpaw allowed three runs -- two earned -- on three hits and three walks over 5 1/3 innings. It was the sixth straight loss for Stults, who leads the majors in losses and has not recorded a win since May 10 against Miami.

Chris Denorfia doubled to lead off the home half of the first and moved over to third on a Seth Smith groundout. Following a walk to Chase Headley, Tommy Medica plated Denorfia with a sacrifice fly to center.

Arizona got the run back with a sacrifice fly from Prado in the third. Ender Inciarte singled to begin the inning, stole second and moved to third on a throwing error from catcher Rene Rivera. Goldschmidt walked to put runners at the corners and Prado followed with a sac fly to right that tied it at 1-1.

The Diamondbacks' bullpen combined to keep the Padres off the board for the remaining 3 2/3 frames, with Addison Reed pitching the ninth to record his 19th save of the season.
