Recap: Houston vs. Detroit

Houston, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Jose Altuve went 3-for-5, scored a run and stole two bases as the Houston Astros topped the Detroit Tigers, 6-4, in the finale of a three-game set.

Scott Feldman (4-5) allowed two runs on seven hits and one walk over six-plus innings for the Astros, who have won three of their last four games. Matt Dominguez posted three hits and scored a run in the triumph.

Drew Smyly (4-7) was charged with four runs on eight hits and two walks over just 2 1/3 innings for Detroit, which had won eight of its last nine coming in. Alex Avila smacked a solo homer in defeat.

Detroit trailed 5-2 before pushing across a pair in the eighth to trim the margin to one.

Victor Martinez worked a two-out walk, J.D. Martinez singled and Nick Castellanos whacked a triple to left to bring them both home and pull the Tigers within 5-4.

Tony Sipp then replaced Jose Veras and struck out pinch-hitter Ian Kinsler on three pitches to end the threat.

Marwin Gonzalez stood on third with one out in the home eighth, but Altuve's fly ball to left wasn't far enough to score him. George Springer was then intentionally walked and Jonathan Singleton lined a single into center to plate Gonzalez for a 6-4 cushion.

Sipp then tossed a 1-2-3 ninth to record his first save of the year.

The Astros opened the scoring with a three of runs in the first.

Altuve led off with a single, stole second and scored when Springer ripped a double to left. Singleton then struck out and after Springer swiped third, Jesus Guzman's roller through the hole on the left side plated him.

Dominguez followed with a base hit and both runners advanced a base on a Smyly wild pitch before L.J. Hoes lifted a sacrifice fly to right and bring home Guzman.

Hunter's two-out RBI double in the third put Detroit on the board, but the Astros got the run back in the home half following back-to-back one-out doubles by Dominguez and Hoes to make it 4-1 in favor of Houston.

Avila's leadoff shot into the seats to right in the fifth cut the deficit to one, but Houston regained its three-run cushion in the sixth.

Alex Presley hit a two-out single, Altuve doubled and Springer was intentionally walked to load the bases for Singleton, whose free pass scored Presley for a 5-2 Astros advantage.

Game Notes

Altuve has nine multi-hit games in his last 12 starts and upped his stolen base total to 36 ... The Astros were 5-for-11 with runners in scoring position, while Detroit finished 2-for-9.
