Recap: Houston vs. Seattle

Houston, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Robinson Cano and Mike Zunino each drove in three runs to lead the Seattle Mariners in a 10-4 pounding of the Houston Astros in the opener of a three-game series.

Cano hit a three-run home run, Zunino added a two-run shot and James Jones had four hits and scored twice for the Mariners, who have won eight of their last 10 games.

Taijuan Walker (1-0), called up prior to the game, pitched six innings and gave up three runs on five hits with a pair of walks and six strikeouts. One of the top pitching prospects in baseball, it was his fourth career start, three of which have come against Houston.

"Just take a deep breath and just go after them," Walker said of his game plan. "Make them put the ball in play and let my defense do their job."

George Springer hit a two-run home run while Marwin Gonzalez added a solo home run and two RBI for the Astros, who have lost six of nine.

Collin McHugh (4-7) allowed five runs on five hits and four walks over six innings to drop his fourth straight start.

"I think I looked up at one point I had thrown 27 balls and 26 strikes," said McHugh. "It's not the way I like to pitch. It was a struggle tonight for sure."

Houston took the initial lead in the game as Alex Presley singled with one out in the first and Springer followed with his 16th home run of the season.

Seattle tied the game, though, in the second as Logan Morrison led off with a walk and Zunino hit his 12th homer of the season, a shot to left.

Gonzalez smacked a solo homer in the second to give the Astros the lead back, but Michael Saunders hit a two-run homer in the fourth and Brad Miller added a solo shot two batters later for a 5-3 lead.

The score stayed that way until the seventh when Endy Chavez and Jones hit consecutive singles to start the frame, and Cano belted a pitch over the wall in left for an 8-3 advantage.

Seattle padded its lead in the ninth on an RBI single from Morrison and a run- scoring groundout by Zunino, while Gonzalez drove in a run on a groundout in the home half to account for the final score.
