Recap: NY Mets vs. Texas

Flushing, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Robinson Chirinos hit a three-run home run and the Texas Rangers grabbed a 5-3 win over the New York Mets in the second of a three-game set.

Adrian Beltre hit a solo home run and Alex Rios went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored for the Rangers, who snapped a six-game losing streak. Colby Lewis (6-5) pitched six innings and allowed three runs -- two earned -- on eight hits with seven strikeouts.

"Chirinos fought through that at-bat and got a ball up and away and hit it out to the opposite field," said Texas manager Ron Washington. "That was huge."

Travis d'Arnuad hit a solo home run for the Mets, who have lost five of their last six. Bartolo Colon (8-7) dropped his second straight start for allowing five runs on eight hits in seven innings.

Texas opened the scoring in the first inning as Elvis Andrus doubled and came home when Rios followed with a double. Two batters later, Leonys Martin walked and Chirinos followed with his eighth home run of the season for a 4-0 lead.

"The first inning he just kept a few of pitches over the plate," d'Arnaud said of Colon. "He executed his pitches after that and kept the ball down."

The Rangers made it a 5-0 game in the third on Beltre's two-out solo shot to left, his 11th of the season.

New York answered in the bottom of the third and were helped by a fielding error. After Ruben Tejada singled to start the inning, Colon reached base when Beltre threw away his grounder to third. Curtis Granderson doubled in Tejada, and Colon scored on a Bobby Abreu single for a 5-2 game.

D'Arnaud led off the fourth with his fifth home run of the season to make it a 5-3 contest.

Lewis tossed a flawless sixth while Neal Cotts did the same in the seventh before walking Chris Young to start the eighth.

Shawn Tolleson then walked pinch-hitter Eric Campbell, but got Juan Lagares to hit into a double play and induced a fly out from d'Arnaud to end the inning.

Joakim Soria got Tejada to ground out to start the ninth before Kirk Nieuwenhuis slugged a pinch-hit double to left. Granderson, though, popped out and Soria struck out Daniel Murphy for his 16th save of the season.
