Recap: Detroit vs. Tampa Bay

Detroit, MI (SportsNetwork.com) - David Price pitched into the ninth inning, outdueling Rick Porcello, and the Tampa Bay Rays defeated the Detroit Tigers 7-3 on Sunday night in the finale of a four-game series.

Price (8-7), whose five-game streak of posting at least 10 strikeouts ended his last time out, surrendered three runs on seven hits with six strikeouts in cruising to his third straight victory.

Ben Zobrist and Sean Rodriguez each had four hits and Desmond Jennings finished 3-for-5 with a two-run homer and two runs scored.

Matt Joyce also added a two-run homer for the Rays, who took the final three games from Detroit and have won 10 of their last 12 overall.

"This is the type of baseball we expected to play," Price said. "I feel like I'm the most complete pitcher that I have ever been right now."

Porcello (11-5), who pitched back-to-back shutouts in his previous two outings and entered the game with a 25-inning scoreless streak, was tagged for seven runs on 11 hits over 5 2/3 innings.

Torii Hunter and J.D. Martinez each hit solo homers in the setback.

"It sucks," Hunter said of the how the series ended. "Don't sleep on them."

Tampa Bay didn't allow Porcello to run his scoreless innings streak any further, jumping on the right-hander right out of the gate. Jennings led off the game with a double to right and Zobrist followed with an RBI single.

Joyce then hit a deep drive to right that was initially ruled a triple, but Tampa Bay challenged the ruling and a video review showed the ball going above the yellow line bordering the wall before hitting the metal fencing and bouncing back onto the field.

Joyce's seventh homer of the season gave the Rays a 3-0 lead.

The Tigers got on the board when Rajai Davis flicked an opposite-field double to begin the home first and scored two batters later on Miguel Cabrera's sacrifice fly.

Both pitchers settled down from there until Tampa Bay added another run in the fifth.

Zobrist singled and Joyce walked with one out before Evan Longoria ripped a single to center for a 4-1 lead.

The Rays then broke it open in the sixth.

Back-to-back singles from Rodriguez and Jose Molina set up an RBI groundout by Kevin Kiermaier.

Jennings then drilled a two-run homer to left to increase the cushion, ending Porcello's night.

Hunter threw Rodriguez out at the plate to end the top of the seventh and led off the home half with his 11th homer of the season. Detroit could have added on, but Eugenio Suarez fell down while running home on Austin Jackson's double and Molina easily tagged him out to end the inning.

Martinez led off the bottom of the ninth with a solo shot to right before Price got two quick outs.

The southpaw couldn't capture his 11th career complete game, however, allowing two straight walks to open the door for closer Jake McGee.

McGee blew a fastball by Jackson to end it and capture his fifth save of the season.
