Recap: Los Angeles vs. San Diego

Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Clayton Kershaw's scoreless streak came to an end at 41 innings, but he still continued to dominate the opposition with his third complete game of the season.

The left-hander allowed one run on three hits and had 11 strikeouts to lead the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 2-1 win over the San Diego Padres on Thursday.

"I felt good I was able to throw strikes," Kershaw said. "It starts with my fastball command. Everything else works off of it."

Kershaw (11-2) cruised through five innings before giving up a two-out home run to Chase Headley in the sixth, the first run he surrendered since the third inning against Arizona on June 13.

His 41-inning streak is third-best in Dodgers history behind Orel Hershiser's MLB-record 59 straight shutout innings in 1988 and Don Drysdale's 58 in 1968.

Kershaw's run included his first career no-hitter on June 18 against Colorado. The two-time Cy Young Award winner has won eight consecutive starts, with his last loss coming at home to the Cincinnati Reds on May 28.

"He's been so good," Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said of his ace. "He was unphased by that run. He is all business. You can tell he felt good tonight."

Adrian Gonzalez and Scott Van Slyke each had an RBI for the Dodgers, who snapped their two-game losing streak.

Odrisamer Despaigne (2-1) took the loss in his fourth MLB start after giving up two runs on seven hits with a career-high seven strikeouts.

"He pitched great," Padres manager Bud Black said of Despaigne. "His fastball was really effective. He matched the best pitcher in baseball all the way through."

San Diego has lost three straight and five of its last six.

The Dodgers had a runner on third with fewer than two outs in the first and third innings, but Despaigne worked out of trouble in both cases to keep the game scoreless.

In the fourth, Yasiel Puig ripped a leadoff double into left for the Dodgers that was deflected by Despaigne.

The right-hander was close to escaping another jam by inducing a groundout from Gonzalez and striking out Matt Kemp, but Van Slyke blooping a pitch into right that allowed Puig to coast home for a 1-0 Dodgers lead.

Headley tied the game and ended Kershaw's streak with two outs in the sixth after fouling off three straight 1-2 offerings. He deposited the seventh pitch of the at-bat over the wall in left-center to tie the game.

"It's one thing to give up a run, but it tied the game," Kershaw noted. "One mistake can kill you, but fortunately one mistake didn't tonight."

Hanley Ramirez began the home sixth with a single to right, stole second and advanced to third on an error by Grandal. Puig grounded out sharply to a drawn-in Alexi Amarista before Gonzalez lifted a sacrifice fly to center that plated Ramirez for a 2-1 lead.

That's all the run support Kershaw needed.

Grandal singled with one out in the seventh before Brooks Conrad and Cameron Maybin both flied out.

Kershaw needed just 10 pitches to get through the eighth and only eight in the ninth to finish off the 14th complete game of his career.
